Lemons are part of the citrus family and are used for a range of culinary products from lemon cheese cake to the garnish on fish. Beside the amazing taste it can deliver in food, lemons can also offer a range of things outside of just food that can help everyday life. While you read this, think about other ways you can use lemons, and leave a comment. I am sure that all readers will appreciate the extra advice on the best way to use a lemon.
1. Get that Fresh Fridge Smell Again
We all get to that stage when our fridge has that smell that lingers after you have had seafood in it for a couple of days. A great way to get rid of that smell is to pour some lemon juice on a cotton ball or sponge, and leave it in the fridge for about 5 hours. Don't forget to get rid of the food that is causing that odour.
2. Have Super White Cauliflower
How many times have I bought cauliflower only to have brown spots show up the moment I decide to cook it? Before you store or cook your cauliflower, squeeze about a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice on it. The next time you have cauliflower it will look like restaurant grade.
3. Refresh Cutting Boards
If you cutting board is anything like mine, then it will be well loved and used. Unfortunately, it is used for a range of products from onions to fish. And, getting rid of that odor can be a challenge. Cut a lemon in half and rub it all over the board. You can also wash it in undiluted juice straight from the bottle.
4. Avocados are Green NOT brown
Avocados can be used for a range of culinary products but unfortunately they can go brown very quickly. Sprinkle a little lemon juice over cut avocado, or over guacamole, so you can be assured that it will look fresh and taste great when served.
Of course there must be a hundred more ways you can use lemons and I would love to hear from you on what you use lemons for.
