Love jazz? Here are three top venues, where you can enjoy the surrounds as well as the sounds of smooth or funky jazz for free!

1. Golden Monkey

Escape into an Opium Den in Old Shanghai at the Golden Monkey. A superbly sexy venue where one can retreat to an intimate corner, or make new friends at the bar or around the dance floor. Always a great turnout, and even if almost empty, the band plays on. Opium Jazz on Tuesday nights 7.30-11.30pm, Shaolin Funk on Thursdays 9-1am. 389 Lonsdale Street Melbourne (enter via Hardware Lane).

Transit Rooftop Bar
2. Transit Rooftop Bar

Sophistication and style, reminiscent of a New Orleans cocktail bar, and a convenient location, just opposite Flinders Street Station, makes Transit Rooftop Bar a perfect location for any night of the week. Settle back on chesterfields, sip on a cognac and listen to the music, show off your groove on the dance floor, or escape to the terrace for views of the Arts Precinct, Southbank and the Yarra River down to the MCG. Open Wednesday-Sunday 3pm til late.

3. Lui Bar

Amazing 180 degrees views from Southbank to Docklands, impeccable service, opulent surrounds, and the best mixologists in Melbourne; Lui Bar is a classic cocktail lounge that is worth the hole in your pocket. Live jazz every Sunday from 3pm. Level 55, Rialto, 525 Collins Street.
