You enjoy crazily high blood pressure, an abnormally fast heart beat and sweat trickling down your forehead. You like getting that tingly excitement rumble throughout your body. You search for activities that will leave you on a euphoric high and with a teethy grin across your face for the rest of the week.
You're seeking an adrenalin rush.
But where can you get that in Adelaide? Don't stress - this list has some of the best thrills that our state has to offer so that you can nourish that adrenaline hunger.
A flyboard. Haven't heard of it? Neither had I until I saw it in full action near the Glenelg jetty. I couldn't seem to be able to peel my eyes away as the flyboard quite literally raised into the air (with a person atop it) and flew! This out-of-the-ordinary piece of equipment is unlike any other. With Coastal Flyboard, you can now stand on a skateboard-size platform and be lifted up from the ocean, high into the air. The board is water jet powered and connected to a jet-ski so that it can be propelled upward, downward or sideways. Just like a skateboard, the person on top of the flyboard can control what direction it goes by tilting their feet.
According to Coastal Flyboard, the equipment is very easy to use and no previous experience is required. If you're getting bored of average water sports, this may just be the activity to give you the adrenalin rush you need.
Everybody recognises sky diving as the classic adrenalin rush experience. It is the ultimate activity for all adventure junkies. And what better location to do it than right at home in Adelaide. South Australia has a number of companies that can provide you with all you need for a safe and scenic sky dive.
Coastal Skydive are located in Semaphore Beach and Goolwa if you wish to fly high above some of South Australia's best beaches. Adelaide Tandem Skydiving have flights from Lower Light, the Barossa Valley, and Clare Valley, so you can soar over the beautiful country towns and wineries. Or, SA Skydiving will push you out over Langhorne Creek which will give a fantastic view of the Adelaide hills and the South Coast. But, let's remember that you'll need to be brave enough to actually open your eyes to capture these spectacular views.
Watching from the sidelines as supercars race is enough for me. But, if you want more, this experience enables you to be inside the car as it reaches speeds of up to 200kmph. The Mallala Motor Sport Park have a number of different experiences available, from a 3 lap deal in the backseat of a V8 to being in the driver seat for 6 laps in your choice of a V8 Ford or Holden. These cars are loud and fast, and your adventure will be made as realistic as possible with use of a race suit and helmet.
If you're daring enough to take control of the wheel, you will receive a pre-drive tuition and have your own person in-car coach. Your blood will be rushing in absolutely every direction as you step foot in one of these powerful vehicles. After the ride, your hands will be sore from gripping too hard, and your cheeks will burn from grinning too hard.
It's not everyday that you get to swim within a metre of a Great White Shark. But why not make today a day you do? The team at Adventure Bay Charters can easily hook you up with a shark diving tour. Don't worry too much - you'll be in a cage so the sharks can't actually hurt you. However, I've got no doubt that your heart will still get pumping at a crazy rate. This is the only way that you can get up close and personal with the inhabitants of our ocean waters. Get to know a deadly animal while being 100% safe.
Most of the different tour types take a whole day and include meals. Some include diving with sea lions or getting to experience a ride in an aqua sub. Imagine telling your mates that you looked a Great White in the eye!
The Mega Adventure park is one of Adelaide's newest and cheapest ways to get a thrill. The SkyChallenge is a two hour experience that only costs $55 per adult. (By far the least pricey activity on this list!) The huge structure allows you to climb 26 metres high and have a go at a number of obstacles such as suspension bridges, swings, scramble nets, monkey bars, and more - all while being held off the ground by cables and ropes. Mega Adventure is essentially a playground in the sky. The park tests your ability to handle crazy heights as you complete tricky hurdles.
The Mega Adventure team are all about fun and safety, so they will be there to assist you and keep you unscathed the entire time. This ariel park is the first of its kind in the whole of Australia, so you can experience the buzz before anybody else.
Now this is simply the icing on the cake. If you've taken a ride in a plane that twists and turns and flips like this, then you've truly done it all! Nothing will compare to the adrenalin rush associated with an aerobatic thrill flight. The group at Coastal Thrill Flights admit that this is not for the faint hearted. The advanced manoeuvres that the pilots pull on these small fighter jets will make the hairs on your body stand up - and that's if you're watching from ground level.
Your flight will take you up high over the stunning Fleurieu Peninsula, giving you some time to take in the views before you are unleashed with the powerful warbird engine. Your pilot will show off his greatest tricks, climbing high into the sky and ditching dangerously to Earth. If you can make it through this experience still breathing then you definitely deserve the crown for the Adrenalin King.
