Fitzroy: The Oldest, Smallest, and Coolest suburb
1. Where is Fitzroy?

Fitzroy is only 2 kilometres north-east of the CBD in the city of Yarra.

The suburb is Melbourne's smallest in terms of area, and is bordered by Victoria Parade to the South (Alexandra Parade to the North), Smith Street in the East, and Nicholson Street.

2. What is the history of Fitzroy?

Fitzroy is Melbourne's first suburb and was formed in 1839. The area has gone through several waves of gentrification and many of the industrial areas have now been converted to apartments.

3. Who lives there?

This small area packs in almost 10,000 residents who are mostly in their late 20s and early 30s, and 45% are born overseas.

4. Are there sporting facilities?

There is a swimming pool, recreation centre, and several sporting clubs in Fitzroy.

The best way to get to Fitzroy is by tram with the numbers 86, 96, and 112 in the area. Driving may be difficult, particularly on Brunswick Street in the evenings.
