I love Melbourne city because of all the hidden gems and treasures you find unknowingly as you walk along the alleyways. There's never a dull moment. The rule is simply plonk yourself on one of the main city streets, and instead of following the path most followed, try and get lost in side streets, alleyways and hidden corners. Yes - sound advice if you really want to discover Melbourne. But today, my aim is to show you some of the sweetest treasures of the city.
To begin with, lets start with the classics.
One of my all time favorites chocolate stores in Melbourne is Koko Black. This little beauty has been around forever selling amazing quality hand made European chocolates. There are a few outlets, but I love the Bourke Street store, which has a great 1930's vibe. Sitting upstairs in antique leather sofas, overlooking the elegant Bourke st arcade and watching the crowd go by as you sip the creamiest hot chocolate is an indulgence we all deserve once in a while.
From their beautiful hot chocolates, desserts and hand made chocolates, whatever you choose will not disappoint. The only complaint people have is that it may be a little too rich, too creamy, too fattening. In my eyes, if that's a complaint then I'm over the moon.
So if you're in the mood for some quite chocolate time to indulge your senses, I highly recommend Koko Black. The chocolates are truly exquisite, sure to please the pallet of any chocolate connoisseur.
I am in love with Lindt Macarons. Ever since I heard that these cookie looking desserts existed, I had to try them, and Lindt by far is my number one choice if I'm ever craving them.
Lindt chocolates are my obvious choice for a supermarket run, but their macarons are definitely my favourite creation of all. I would highly recommend you try their 'melt-in-your-mouth' macarons, which they cleverly call 'Delice. It's a little piece of heaven for less then $3 each. Their collection of macarons range from flavours such as strawberry, vanilla, chocolate, champagne, hazelnut, roselli, salt caramel, and my absolute favorite from their delice range is the pistachio flavor. They are so well made, and don't crumble into chunks when you bite into them.
Over the last few years we've all noticed the increasing number of cupcake specialty stores that have opened around Melbourne. Cupcakes are in. They are small, delightfully colorful, and delicious. A satisfying treat at any time of the day. Through my highs and lows of finding exciting flavors and eating stale cupcakes, I still had to try them all. My conclusion to the favorite has to be The Cupcake Family. This little store in the QV has the cutest cupcakes, my favorite being their Blueberry Cream Cheese. The cupcake is soft with pieces of juicy blueberries, covered in a generous dollop of silky soft cream cheese butter cream. They also have other unique flavors like Lemony Sunshine, Green Tea Daisy, Coffee Crunch and many more. There may be imitations here and there, but I would recommend you try The Cupcake Family, and become part of their family too.
Cakes always remind me of celebrations, its such a positive dessert, full of optimism and happiness. We all love cakes, and if your in Melbourne, you can't pass Brunetti's of Lygon st.
As soon as you walk in, your pupils expand as you see rows and rows and rows of cakes, treats, biscuits all in one place, and you feel like a little kid again trying to decide what you'd like. The choice is truly endless, and the cakes so divine. Brunetti's is one of lygon st's dessert gems.
The very best Macarons can be found and devoured at Shocolate in Johnson St. Fitzroy. They are the next best thing to their hot Chocolate. oh my!

Cafe Krifi at Victoria Gardens shopping centre have a really impressive range of macaroons. There's regular flavours like chocolate, but then other flavours like creme brulee, bubblegum, french vanilla, make this place really special. So tasty!
