In the past two decades sushi has become quite a popular lunch and dinner option - it is in many ways a true healthy fast-food dish.

Sushi these days is found in almost every food court of a suburban shopping centre, usually encased in plastic and it is also found in fine dining establishments, prepared by skilled chefs; which begs the questions - which is the best sushi - the less expensive pre-packaged kind or the more expensive fresh, intricate platters found in restaurants in and around Brisbane?

The WeekendNotes Brisbane team have reviewed quite a few places known for sushi and have recommend the following establishments; Ginga Sushi Bar and Fusion, Sanga Sushi Bar and Sushi Moto.

Other top sushi picks in Brisbane would be Oishii Sushi Bar, Sono Japanese Restaurant, Hosokawa Japanese Restaurant, Bishamon Japanese, Sushi Nikkou and Saké Restaurant and Bar.

If you have a favourite place where you enjoy delightful sushi, please let us know about it by leaving a comment below.

We look forward to your suggestions.

The sushi place on Albert street across from Rocking Horse Records (their sister store is on Adelaide St next to Starbucks down near David Jones). These are the sushi places with lines out the door every single lunchtime - it's not that the service is slow (it's super fast!) it's that this is far and away the best sushi in Brisbane. They specialise in handrolls and have a fantastic and fresh range - importantly heaps of veggie options (tempura asparagus, seaweed, mushroom, tofu etc etc). Delicious.

I think the best sushi in Brisbane is at 'the hole in the wall' on the back wall of David Jones in Adelaide Street. There is always a queue but sorry don't know the name!

Sushi Train at Indooropilly (near the train station) - don't be put off by it being a chain, it is amazing sushi (and better than the other Sushi Trains I've eaten at) and the fact that there is always a line up (in the evenings) is testament to how good this place is. Actually don't go there, it will just take me longer to get a seat!
