The Sunday Roast is a tradition on Sundays in homes all over the world. I have to admit I am a big fan of the good old fashioned roast dinner with all the trimmings - roast beef, golden roast potatoes, veggies, Yorkshire Pudding and lashings of tasty gravy.
However, sometimes it is just not possible to make a Sunday Roast but where can you get the best Sunday Roast in Perth?
One of the best places for a roast dinner would have to be Carvers at the Burswood Entertainment Complex. You can get a roast dinner there any day, not just on a Sunday and it's all-you-can-eat so it's certainly value for money. There is roast beef and pork, a variety of vegetables and tasty gravy, plus soup, plenty of salads and desserts. Carvers are open every day from 11am till 3pm for lunch and 5.30pm till 9.30pm for dinner. Lunch is $20.95 and dinner costs $26.95 Monday to Thursday, $29.95 Friday and Saturday and $28.95 on Sunday, even less if you are a Club Burswood Member. This might be a bit more expensive than some places but remember it is all-you-can-eat and that includes hot and cold drinks.
Fibber McGee's Irish Pub and Steakhouse in Leederville do a brilliant Sunday Roast. Served from 12 noon until 9pm every Sunday it will cost you just $18.95 for either roast beef, roast lamb or roast pork with all the trimmings.
The South Street Bar and Restaurant in Hilton have an all day Sunday Roast for just $15.00 or $9.00 for kids. Durty Nelly's Irish Pub in Perth has Sunday Roast from 11am for $20.00 and that includes your choice of dessert. Sunday Roast at the Market City Tavern in Canning Vale is served for either lunch or dinner and includes the salad bar for $16.95.
Woodvale Tavern is a traditional British style pub with a relaxed friendly atmosphere. They do a traditional Sunday Roast, including dessert, for $26.90 and $12.90 for kids. Paddy Malones in Joondalup has Sunday Lunch for $19.50. Fuse Bar in Northbridge has an all day Sunday roast for $16.50.
Sunday Roast at the Odin Tavern in Balcatta is served from 12 noon until 8pm. For just $15.00 the two course roast dinner comes with a choice of either soup or dessert. Dine indoors or in the alfresco area and enjoy a relaxed family meal for a reasonable price.
These are only a few of the places that serve a good Sunday Roast and I'm sure there are many more. If you know of a place or have a favourite restaurant that serves the best Sunday Roast please leave a comment and let us know.
I'm not usually one to endorse fast food and particularly not when the subject is a Sunday institution, but The Bucking Bull chain does surprisingly good beef and pork roast! You'll find these outlets in some of the larger shopping centre food halls - Garden City and Carousel spring to mind. Catch them at the right time and the pork crackling is to die for as are the chips with gravy... Ohhh that gravy! Prices are also pretty reasonable. You need to give these guys a try before you condemn me.
Market city tarven is by far the best so far. I took my 2 and 3 year old and 10 year old was given a big table high chairs and colour pack for each and then sat a while before I ordered then for my roast was a help ur self to as much as u wanted and after was ice cream that was a help ur self. I order pizzas for the kids but one was way more than I needed and was given take a way boxes for the other 2 pizzas that were left. Lovely and big and very clean and was very welcoming and Densil and the lady cook was most helpful polite and very accommodating.. I'd give 5 stars if I could will be going every week from now on
The Odin tavern Sunday Roast is now $16, not $15. The Odin is not as good as it used to be, their cooking standards are slipping with some recent chef replacement.
I got a lamb shank there last weekend, the shank was good, but the green beans were only half cooked and inedible, the mashed potato was just a horrible watery slurry, and the whole lot was covered in a litre of gravy, a la American-style cooking.
It was a real disappointment for a meal, as the Odin has been very consistent with good food for a long time.
However, every food place is only as good as the chef they hire, and most chefs seem to change employers every 6 to 12 months.
