A guide to Brisbane's best Christmas light locations
Brisbane's most lit up streets and suburbs

You know it's officially Christmas not when you see the Christmas merchandise hit the supermarket shelves, but when you see the first house completely dressed in Christmas lights. That's exactly what I saw the other night when driving in Brisbane's east.

These homeowners, while quick off the mark, are set to be just one of hundreds of houses in numerous suburbs across Brisbane lighting up their entrance facades, fences, roofs and gardens in countless colourful lights. Perhaps neighbourhood bragging rights are at stake, or maybe it's the wish to spread much-needed Christmas cheer and celebrate the magic of the silly season.

Whatever the reason, 2014 will be the 28th year 4KQ is running their annual Christmas light displays competition. There are categories for all types of dwelling types and business light displays, and more than 25,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs. That's in addition to the pride people will feel for seeing your home or business literally up in lights

Some suburbs however do Christmas lights better than most, and across Brisbane's northern, southern, eastern and western neighbourhoods, here's the pick of the streets and suburbs across Brisbane where you can see some dazzling displays of Christmas dedication from locals.

Eastern Suburbs

Brandella Place in Belmont in 2013 Took out the coveted best neighbourhood title

Brisbane's East has had it's fair share of festivities in 2013 and the action is set to take place again in 2014, with some of the most concentrated displays on Christmas lights in the Belmont and Tingalpa areas. Abbeyfeale Street has been a frequent de-light-ful displayer and Brandella Place took out the title for the best neighbourhood in 2013! Will it win again this year?

Driving around Brisbane's western suburbs is also a safe bet to see some of the best light displays. Kenmore couple Walter and Beverly Wood of Warunda Street have been lighting up their home and taken out 'Best Residential Display' for the Western Suburbs more than 20 times. They estimate they have more than 75,000 lights to put up each year. PLEASE NOTE: All information has been compiled from 2013 data and listing and is not guaranteed to be 100 per cent correct. Fortunately for those who love to drive around the streets chasing brilliant light displays, most of the homes celebrate the tradition year after year and several homes take part. This means that you can expect to see at least some quality light displays in the areas that have been mentioned.

If you know of any other streets and suburbs that have not made the list, please let us know with a comment and give us the hot tip about where the best Christmas light suburbs are in Brisbane!

Finally, a big thank you to the owners for all their hard work putting up and taking down these intricate displays year after year. Thanks for spreading the Christmas cheer for all to enjoy.

Definitely not much happening in Wootton crescent. Adelong street and Warnabul road are pretty dead too. Maybe 3 or 4 houses lit up. Penelope drive only had 2 decent light displays also. Disappointing Southside this year.

We are asking for your support to help us win $500 for Make-A-Wish Foundation by voting for our Christmas Light Display at 25 Lacewood Circuit, Warner QLD in a local competition. Our display is very different to other Light Displays and well worth a visit.
It is a walk through display and there is something to see at as you walk through including into the garage.
Just click link below to take you to the voting page and click like and share it with your friends or the following link.
Our family & Make-A-Wish Foundation thank you for your support and we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
