Let's face it. Sooner or later you will want to go shopping, but are tired of visiting your local, busy and highly similar Brisbane shopping centres.

What do you do?

Why not make an adventurous day trip and visit the Gold Coast's shopping centres?

With over 15 shopping centres spreading from Tweed Heads to Coomera and beyond, how do you know which one to visit? Well it all depends on what type of shopping experience you are after!

My top three stand out Gold Coast shopping centres are Robina Town Centre, Harbour Town and Pacific Fair.

Pacific Fair is located in Broadbeach and approximately a kilometre away from the stunning Kurrawa beach.

I find this shopping centre is laid back and great for sunny days with outdoor shops, playgrounds and cafes to soak in the Gold Coast sun. The centre has a great family environment and holds all your essential shops like Coles, Cotton On, City Beach, Myer, Toys R Us and more, making it a one stop destination.

You'll also be pleasantly surprised at the ease to find a car park compared to other major shopping centres, with large car parks spread across the centre.

Pacific Fair is a 45 minute to an hour long drive depending on traffic. To get to Pacific Fair take exit 77 and drive straight through Gooding Drive and Nerang-Broadbeach Road for approximately 15 mins before seeing a large salmon coloured building on your right hand side as you approach.

Robina Town Centre is the hottest shopping centre on the Gold Coast at the moment after its multimillion dollar renovation.

It's a great shopping centre for extremely hot, stormy or rainy days with the whole shopping centre undercover and air-conditioned for your comfort.

I find it isn't completely family friendly in the posh environment it holds, maintaining an upper class cliental feel and only one playground available on the outskirts of the shopping centre. For a dining experience however it is number one with 'The Promenade' holding 14 restaurants and café's including Grill'd, Kouzina's, Groove Train, Gloria Jeans and every chocoholic's dream; Max Brenner's. The Promenade is also home to AMF Bowling with laser skirmish, and Event Cinemas.

As mentioned before, Robina is the new destination for shoppers on the Gold Coast so be prepared to fight with the rest of the city for a car park and to fight your way through the crowds.

Robina Town Centre is located in Robina and an hour long drive from Mt Gravatt. To get to Robina Town Centre take exit 82 on the M1 and follow the numerous signs.

Finally you have Harbour Town in Biggera Waters, the only outlet shopping centre on the Gold Coast.

I find Harbour Town is a great place to go on sunny days with all the shops spread out, but has little shelter from any rain.

Having been to the shopping centre numerous times I find it doesn't have a great deal of specials on that I would take, but have noticed many visitors carrying numerous bags. I have also found it to have a small variety of food stalls compared to its competitors.

It is home to standard shops including Woolworths and Giant Chemist, as well as outlet and clearance stores for major shops like David Jones and Converse.

To get to Harbour Town from Brisbane take exit 62 on the M1 and travel straight for approximately seven kilometres through seven sets of traffic lights. The trip will take approximately 35 to 40 minutes.

These of course, are only three of the major shopping centres on the Gold Coast but there are many more you can discover through day trips to the sunny city.
