My favourite style of Roti is generally the Malaysian style. However, I do not discriminate ever where roti is concerned. As long as it is fluffy, buttery, and hot I am not fussed who cooks it or what style it is.
These two places in the CBD keep me going back time and time again. They both specialise in the Malaysian Roti.
Chinta Ria The Emporium 275-321 Lonsdale St, Melbourne VIC 3000
There are a few options with the roti here. My favourite which is the roti with beef, as well as roti with chicken, kaya and ye olde favourite peanut sauce.
I love it so much I'm inclined to ask for an extra piece and I always forget to get a photo.
Mamak 366 Lonsdale St, Melbourne 3000
This place makes roti look, taste and feels sexy. Mamak's crowning achievement is that you can get a range of classic sweet and savoury roti, as well as my favourite Murtabak. (Think Singapore Zam Zam in Kampong Glam).
You can get both the sweet roti and the savoury roti here and you can also get a Murtabak Singaporean style. I have tried all three. The portions are ginormous, so you could bring a friend to share (although I prefer to be selfish and eat it all myself!).
It also comes with the theatre in the front window of where you actually see them making the roti, which makes me feel like I'm back in S.E. Asia somewhere.
Mamak is always busy. You can get it delivered through UberEats and other delivery partners.
I highly recommend both of these places if you enjoy roti as much as I do.
