If you're looking for the best views and the smallest crowds for your annual pilgrimage to Brisbane's Riverfire extravaganza you might need to think outside the box. Move your sights from the land to the river that is the cause of all this celebration and you might increase your enjoyment factor exponentially. Of course you'll increase the costs exponentially too. Unlike the frenetic but freebie foreshore a river cruise for Riverfire doesn't come without a price tag, but what price do you put on the best seats on the river?. Read on to get the lowdown on the options available for this year's event on Saturday 28 September.

Moreton Island Adventures - MICAT

This one is definitely an experience for the party set. MICAT (a three-level ferry) will carry up to 600 passengers who will enjoy a gourmet buffet, a live funk band, wine, beer, soft drink, tea and coffee, and did I mention the fireworks? Departure at 4.30pm is from the Port of Brisbane Ferry Terminal so you'll see more of the river and return to the terminal at 9pm. Cost is $150 per person.

Brisbane Whale Watching

You'll be able to see the Australian Defence Force aerial displays as well as Riverfire on board Brisbane Whale Watching's catamaran, MV Eye Spy because this one boards early at 4pm with a departure at 4.30pm. You'll cruise the river and view the fireworks from a position off Kangaroo Point Cliffs. There's also a buffet dinner, champagne, tea and coffee and live entertainment, with the boat returning at 9pm. The cruise departs from Brett's Wharf at Hamilton. The cost is $140 per person and limited seats are available.

Sail Free Charters

If you'd like a really personal Riverfire experience why not charter your own luxury vessel and bring your friends along. Sail Free Charters have had some late cancellations so you're in luck. How about fully catered (self serve) options complete with captain and deckhand, five hours cruising on a luxury catamaran and your choice of boarding locations? The vessels will carry between 26 and 75 people, depending on which one you choose and cost depends on the vessel and the hospitality options you choose. Prices start at $230 per person.

Kookaburra River Queens have 2 packages available for Riverfire this year: the Commodore's Package at $195 per adult, $97.50 per child and $165.75 for pensioners, or the Captain's Package at $170 per adult, $85 per child and $144.50 for pensioners. You'll board at Eagle Street Pier at 4pm and return at 8.30pm.
