There are plenty of great place to eat and in Perth. Here are your best 'north of the river' options.

Brisbane Hotel - corner of Brisbane and Beaufort Street Highgate, 9227 2300.

Is it a bar, is it a restaurant? Actually the Brisbane is both. In summer it's great to sit outside in the terraced beer garden (it can get pretty busy) and in winter you might when you can hide away inside. There's plenty of space and a cool, urban vibe.

The menu includes things to share like salt & pepper squid, fritters and fries but their pizzas are also amazing and other options include pastas, lamb shanks and grilled salmon. You'll always get decent servings. The Brisbane takes bookings for dinner from Monday to Thursday and walk ins for dinner on Friday and Saturday. You can book for lunch seven days a week. It's a mix of casual and cool at Cantina and if you're a coffee-lover you'll enjoy their brews. The wait staff friendly and they know their stuff. You can book for lunch or dinner but breakfast is walk-ins only. They call it a European canteen and there are a lot of exciting ingredients on the menu. For breakfast try the polenta with slow cooked eggs or a ciabatta toastie. For lunch, sample the panfried gnocchi, duck liver parfait or a gourmet salad.

There's anti-pasto options in the afternoon and dinner has some of the lunch options again plus meals like braised lamb shoulder, citrus cured salmon and chicken terrine. Chutney Mary's is a lot of Perth people's favourite Indian restaurant so it's always a good idea to make a booking, but you could try a 'walk-in' if you're in the area. It's casual but classy with colourful Indian decorations and there are a lot of options on the menu something for those who like it hot, choices for the chilli-challenged and vegetarian options. Share a selection of starters with your friends.

Choose from Punjabi samosas, chicken tikka and tandoori king prawns. You're guaranteed an explosion of beautiful flavours and wonderful aromas at Chutney Mary's and you usually end up ordering too much food but who cares. Leederville is a trendy spot for dining out and Duende is one of your best options. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and channels a bit of Spain into Perth.

You can start the morning with coffee made from locally roasted beans and a cooked breaky with organic eggs and specialty meats.

The tapas menu kicks in at midday and the Mediterranean options and designed for sharing. There are plenty of vego and gluten-free options too.

For dinner you could also choose paella with seasonal produce and finish with Duende's famous doughnut balls with condensed milk ice-cream or a selection of cheeses.

Great for lunch or dinner and of course a few cheeky wines. The menu is full of modern French cuisine with oysters, wagu beef, roasted duck and steaks. The Witch's Cauldron is one of Perth's longest standing restaurants. It's a landmark in the heart of Subiaco and is a two storey building with different style seating from tables to booths to street side dining as well. If you go there you have to order their sizzling garlic prawns because it's what they're famous for.

Different pictures of witches decorate the walls at the Witch's Cauldron and always get good, hearty meals including steaks, gnocchi, duck, crayfish mornay and a range of salads. Soak up the casual, rustic and modern vibe at Voyage Kitchen while you take in the ocean views. Simple food with quality ingredients that's what's on offer and pretty much everything, besides the bread, is made from scratch onsite.

Breakfast options include eggs (free range of course), pancakes and bircher muesli. For lunch there's a range including salads packed with vegies, savoury tarts and quesadillas. If you're after a super relaxed, beachside vibe for breakfast or lunch, check out Yelo. There's a great range of gourmet delights with a focus on organic food. Early morning choose from bircher museli, fresh muffins or thick toast or try their specialty breaky wraps. At lunch time take your pick from the fresh toasted paninis, bagels or wraps. They've also got frittatas and salads. You'll find something for the sweet tooth (tarts and cupcakes and banana bread) and gluten free options too. Grab a coffee, fresh juice or smoothie.

Yelo's not your conventional cafe, in fact it's more like a beachside coffee shop. Just order at the counter then decide if you'll grab a seat on a couch or bench or take a short stroll to the beautiful Trigg Beach park. Yelo is an alcohol-free zone.
