Love your potato cakes? If you are passing through Lilydale there are only two places to consider.

Large and crunchy
Both are in the main street near the railway station.
Captain K's Fish & Chips
115 Main Street
Captain K's offer 'junior chips' for those who can't manage a full serve on their own.

Always busy
Yarra Valley Fish & Chips.
141 Main Street.
Yarra Valley offer 'Junior Flake' and 'Flake Fingers" for those who can't manage a side of shark in one sitting.

Worth visiting
There are several other places to buy potato cakes in Lilydale, but don't bother, unless you like soggy cardboard in soggy batter.
Those are the outlets that have their pre-cooked potato cakes on display being kept warm by heater lights.
You could be lucky and arrive to buy just as a new batch has been cooked, but don't count on it.
Both Captain K's and Yarra Valley also offer the usual fish & chip shop range of a variety of different fish, hamburgers, steak sandwiches.
They both list on their menu 'Mars Bar in Batter', but those behind the counter say they have never had one. I wonder why?
On occasions when the slices of potatoes are small, both shops generously give you more than you order. That is looking after your customers.

Pleasure on a plate.
I can't separate the taste and quality of the potato cakes from two outlets, so why not try both.
If the hungries hit as you hit Lilydale, hit the service road for your potato cake hit.
