You might be wondering why I chose to put an EB Games store at the top of this list. There are tons of EB Games stores in Perth and they're mostly all the same. The thing that makes the Hay Street Mall store stand out from all the rest is the huge Zing section that extends into the back of the store. I've been a video game nerd ever since my Mum put a Super Nintendo controller in my hands and introduced me to Super Mario. I love visiting an EB Games store and checking out the games and all the specials but I'm usually in and out within ten minutes or less. The only exception is when I visit the store in the Hay Street Mall. I can spend a good thirty minutes in the Zing section, looking at their giant wall of Pop Vinyls, all of their Super Mario merchandise, t-shirts and comic books, figurines and coffee cups and board games.

This is the only EB Games that I've found which sells things from Sailor Moon. The last time I checked them out they had Sailor Moon shot glasses, figurines, coffee cups and a beautiful figurine of Usagi in her school uniform for $100 dollars. When I was in the store last weekend, I spotted a leather handbag decorated with pictures of characters from The Little Mermaid. My purse almost jumped out of my bag. And they had a Simpsons t-shirt that would make a great gift for my husband. This store is great. There are so many weird things in it. I had a lot of fun taking pictures for this article. How cool is that Tri-wizard cup and some of those Star Wars and Iron Man figurines! If you're like me and you have a weakness for collecting things, it can be hard to leave a shop like this without buying something.

2. Quality Comics

If comic books and graphic novels are your thing, then you have to check out Quality Comics. It's located on the basement level of a shop in Hay Street. It was established in 1994 and prides itself on being Perth's oldest comic book shop. I've visited a lot of comic book stores in Perth and I like this one the best. The prices are fair and reasonable and they have a huge range.

The room is stocked with graphic novels, old-school comics, colouring books, figurines, t-shirts, collectables, rare comics, toys and posters. They stock the usual DC and Marvel favourites but also old classics like Dick Tracey and the Phantom.

If you're into graphic novels they have lots to choose from. I can personally recommend The Walking Dead, Fables, Saga, Bitch Planet, Y The Last Man, Invincible, The Wicked and The Devine and the Unwritten. Quality Comics has all of those plus many, many more on their shelves. If you like manga and anime, they have a section devoted to that. If you're looking for a back issue of a comic, they have boxes and boxes of old comics you can flip through at your leisure to try and find the one you're looking for.

If you're looking for something suitable for small children, you should check out their large range of Adventure Time graphic novels. If you're into figurines they have glass cabinets full of them plus an entire wall stacked with Pop Vinyls. If you're not sure what you want to get, you could always ask the staff for a recommendation. They're always eager to help.
3. High Fidelity

Address: 858 Hay St, Perth WA 6000
Telephone: (08) 9322 6615
Opening hours:
Monday – Thursday: 9am – 5pm
Friday: 9am – 6pm
Saturday: 9am – 5pm
Sunday: 10am – 4pm

High Fidelity is located in the upstairs section of 858 Hay Street. If you don't know what you're looking for, its front entrance can be easy to miss. You want to look for a door that says High Fidelity on the front and a set of stairs that lead up past a bunch of posters. If you're familiar with the part of town, High Fidelity is in it occupies the spot that Empire Games and Red Griffin Games used to be in.

High Fidelity is an interesting shop. It is part record store and part pop culture store. It reminds me a lot of what Planet Books in Mt Lawley used to be like back in its heyday.

High Fidelity is open 7 days a week and stocks brand new vinyl records, CDS, music merchandise, Pop Vinyls, men's and women's clothing, shoes and handbags, board games and coffee cups and trading cards and a huge range of pop culture collectables. There is stock from the floor to the ceiling. In the first room, there are handbags hanging from the roof, racks of clothing, walls of Pop Vinyls and other figurines, cabinets filled with collectables and lots of CDs and vinyl records.

In the second room, there is a wall of board games and toys. There are things from Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Pac-Man, Adventure Time, Betty Boop and even tubs of playdough. I love the randomness of this shop. It makes it really unique. Where else can you buy a vinyl record and a Pop Vinyl and a board game in one shop? It's really great.
