Located just approximately 4km from Sydney Central Business District, Waverton is a small suburb with a modern village appeal on the lower north-shore of Sydney. Though it is predominantly a residential area, this little suburb boasts some of the best recreational parks and lookouts around Sydney. It is also house to HMAS Waterhen navel base.

Some of the major attractions in Waverton which are worth noting are outlined below but before you start your exploration in Waverton, you may want to consider stopping by Waverton shopping village (right next to the train station upon exit) for breakfast and snack. There are several good cafes around the area.

1. The Coal Loader Center for Sustainability

The Coal Loader Enter for Sustainability is a central hub for the community to meet and participate in various environmental and sustainability programs organised by the centre. It is open for the public to visit, attend the workshops or simply enjoying the beautiful harbour view and be inspired by innovative sustainable technology featured in the centre. Among the interesting features include community garden, Genia McCaffery centre, community nursery, Aboriginal Bush Foods Garden, Chook Run, Coal Loading tunnel and foreshore park lands.

2. Balls Head Reserve

Continuing on from the Coal Loader park lands, you can walk to Balls Head Reserve, the bushland peninsula which is a popular picnic spot with stunning view of Sydney Harbor and industrial relics. Traces of Aboriginal rock paintings can also be found here.

There are several bush walking tracks available including wheelchair access. Basic amenities such as toilets, picnic tables, water fountain and electric BBQ pits are available.

3. Waverton Park

Built on a partly reclaimed tidal flats, the park offers a spectacular view of city skyline over Berrys Bay. The park has a historic Geraghty Gates which was erected on the north west corner of the park. Besides being a great park for family outings and outdoor activities it is also dog-friendly though within specified permitted perimeter. Other facilities include sports field, bowling club and a "motoring" themed Merrett Playground on the upper lever of the park.

4. Carradah Park

Adjacent to Waverton Park and Merrett Playground is the former BP site transformed to present Carradah Park . An interesting park to explore complete with interpretive signs and directional signage throughout the park including industrial remnants from former BP oil company. Will Ashton lookout is one of the highlights at the upper level platform of the park complete with viewing seats and railing.

5. Euroka Street Park / Playground

Nestled in a quiet and peaceful neighbourhood in Euroka Street, this is a small leafy park and playground with lots of shades. Nice little spot for kids to get active in the fitness-style themed playground featuring monkey bars, wall-climbing, robe-climbing, and handball court. Adults are also welcomed to workout with fitness equipments such as stepper and stand-up swing. Great place for both adults and kids.

6. Brennan Park


Although this park is classified under Wollstonecraft, it is only 10 minutes walk from either Waverton or Wollstonecraft train stations. It features a wide open space with grassy slopes surrounded by matured trees, a daisy-themed children's playground, picnic tables and toilets.
