Thousands of people move to Canberra each year for work or study, which means that many of us have left behind an extended family in another state or country. This means that when they come to visit, we get to show them around our city and take them to the interesting places that we have discovered and funky cafes we have found. If your Mum is coming to visit and you want to take her out for a special birthday lunch, Mother's Day treat or just because you want to spend time with her, it can be handy to have a few ideas on where to stop for a nice lunch around the city. Where do you like to take your Mum for lunch in Canberra? Please leave a comment at the top of this article and let us know your favourite spots.
Each mother, mother-in-law, mother figure or grandmother is different, so take a scroll through this list and see which one(s) applies to her the most. If you're anything like my Mum and I, however - you will be probably be talking so much that you won't taste the food anyway!
The Deck café is located at Regatta Point next to the Canberra and Region Visitor Centre, overlooking Lake Burley Griffin. This is the ideal place to stop for lunch if it is a sunny day, with a large deck area to sit and umbrella's for shade. If you want to skip lunch, however, they also offer
delicious cakes to enjoy a coffee and a chat. See

Museum Café inside the National Museum of Australia is another top pick, as you can have a wander around the museum and then stop for lunch with another iconic

Weston Park near Lake Burley Griffin, just a short drive from the city. This
leafy café is ideal on a sunny day, with outdoor courtyards where you can enjoy the smell from the rose gardens and camellias around the café. If your Mum has a green thumb, she can help you pick some plants at the nursery across from the café afterwards. See
