After writing about all the special events that are happening around Canberra for Father's Day (2018), I thought it would also be handy to gather a few suggestions on where else dad could enjoy his special day. These lunch venue ideas don't have to be restricted to Father's Day, they can be for birthdays, celebrations and just because you want to spend some time with the father figure in your life. Every dad is different - he could be a new dad who is just happy to be out of the house, or he could be a dad with older children who enjoys the finer things in life. This list contains ideas for a whole range of interests, so take a scroll through and see which ideas apply to the dad in your family.
Where do you like to take your dad, step-father, grandpa, father-in-law or husband, when you want to take him somewhere he will enjoy? Please leave a comment at the top of this article and share your suggestions. You can never have too many!
Beers, burgers & lawn games at Capital Brewing Co. Image: Original photos from Capital Brewing Co Facebook
Capital Brewing Co is a popular brewery for anyone who enjoys trying home-grown local beer. This beer and burger venue is located in an unusual location, tucked away in Fyshwick on the way to the Jerrabomberra Wetlands. It is in this industrial, warehouse location as they need the height of the building to hold their impressive brewing tanks, which you can see as soon as you walk in the door. The whole family will enjoy this venue, with paddles of beers to taste test, burgers from Brodburger, a roaring fire if it is cold and lawn games out the front if it is warm. See here for details.
BentSpoke Brewing Co is a more centrally located brewery, located on Mort street - just off the popular Lonsdale Street that runs through Braddon. This locally-owned brewery also makes their own beers on site, with a long list of great-tasting options to choose from. Their menu matches the beer perfectly with hot wings, chilli mussels, cheese boards, burgers and more. The upstairs dining area is ideal for couples, groups and larger family get-togethers - however book early to secure a table. See here for details. Four Winds Vineyard is located in the Canberra Wine District, 40 minutes north of the city. If you have the whole day to spend with your dad, why not tour the wineries and then stop at Four Winds Vineyard for wine tasting and then a wood-fired pizza for lunch (weekends only). If you have kids or non-drinkers with you, they will appreciate a stop at Robyn Rowe Chocolates along the way! See here for details. For more places to stop in for lunch in the wine district, see here.
The Kingston Foreshore is a relaxing area of the city, located at the eastern end of Lake Burley Griffin. Take a walk along the strip of restaurants, cafes and gastropubs and see which one attracts your dad's eye. If he enjoys sport, stop for lunch at The Dock, which is owned by Brumbies and Wallabies forwards Scott Fardy and Ben Alexander. See here for some of the family friendly options.
Woolley Street in Dickson is a popular area to visit if your dad enjoys Asian cuisine. Along the whole street you will find delicious options on both sides of the road which include Vietnamese, Thai, Malaysian, Chinese, Laos, Indian and more. Although there are popular Asian restaurants in the centre of Canberra, the options along Woolley Street are as traditional as they come. If your dad loves laksa, don't walk past Dickson Noodle House.

Canberra Southern Cross Cruises offer weekend lunch cruises, for dads who enjoy getting out on the water. See here for details.
