Mother's Day always comes around so fast each year. First there's Valentine's Day, then Easter and then before you know it - you flick the calendar over and there's Mother's Day on the second Sunday in May! It is a special day for all the mother figures in our lives, so we can spoil them and show them how much we appreciate them - all year around. Being a mum isn't easy, particularly in the early years, so anything that will pamper her and make her feel special will always be welcomed.
Although mums will be happy to spend Mother's Day spending quality time with you, why not spoil her to a
lunch out , go on a
picnic by the lake, buy her a cake from her favourite
patisserie take her shopping at the
markets or book a massage at the local
day spa ? Here are some more ideas to get you thinking - however if you have any more top places to go, please leave a comment at the top of this article and share your tips. I'm sure she will love wherever you take her - because you will be there!

For Sweet Tooth Mums - Enjoy a Decadent High Tea**
High Teas are a popular way to celebrate Mother's Day in Canberra - often with 3 generations sitting at the table enjoying the petite sweets together. Around Canberra, popular venues include the Tea Lounge at the
Hyatt Hotel ,

White Rabbit Cocktail Room and
The Burbury Hotel . If you have kids with you, you can't go past
Kitchen Garden at Rodney's (located inside Rodney's Plants Plus in Pialligo), as it has a decadent High Tea selection, a children's playground and plants and home wares to look at afterwards! Alternatively, just book a table for a cuppa and a cake, while the kids have a play.
For Everyone - Enter into the Mother's Day Classic
The Mother's Day Classic charity run is another popular way to spend Mother's Day in Canberra - enjoying a run around Lake Burley Griffin and supporting Breast Cancer Research at the same time. You can run or walk as a family and choose between the 5km walk, 5km run or 10km run. This event has a positive vibe - it is the whole community banding together to fight breast cancer, or support a loved one who has been affected. Why not dress up in pink and spread some Mother's Day love! See
here for details.
For Wine Loving Mums - Visit the Canberra Wine District
The Canberra Wine District is located to the north and east of the city, past the suburbs of Gungahlin. You can pick up a map from the
Canberra and Region Tourist Information Centre or any of the
venues (or see
here for a printable map), and then follow the trail around the region - discovering large cellar doors and cute, boutique wineries along the way. When you are ready to stop for lunch, there are a number of delicious
venues and restaurants in the region, with wine perfectly suited to match.
If you have kids, a popular winery is
Four Winds Vineyard , which has plenty of grass for the kids to run around on and wood-fired pizza on the weekend. Other popular venues which host Mother's Day events include
Poachers Pantry (book early!),
Contentious Character ,
Lake George Winery and
Lerida Estate . If your mum has a sweet tooth - and who doesn't? - then you must take a drive to
Robyn Rowe Chocolates for afternoon tea!
For Foodie Mums - Local Restaurants
Many local restaurants offer a Mother's Day Lunch special each May, often with a few courses and a glass of bubbly on arrival. Popular venues each year are
Pialligo Estate ,
Canberra Southern Cross Clubs ,
Marble & Grain ,
QT Hotel ,
Onred ,
Hotel Kurrajong ,

The Howling Moon ,

These are just
some of the things that you can do around Canberra this May - however, if you are looking for more ideas, check back with Canberra
Weekendnotes to see events listed around the city. Also, scroll down to see if your fellow Canberrans have made comments about where they like to go for Mother's Day each year.
