Pretend to be an expert, even when you're not
With the advent of digital cameras it's pretty easy to take half decent photos these days.

And even if they're awful, it's even easier to delete them.

A day at the Royal Show has boundless opportunities for some great happy snaps. Here are some of my favourites.

The Wave Swing
Try and not have anything else in the background, just the blue sky. It's also best if you don't have a small kids screaming uncontrollably in the photo.

You don't always have to photograph people from the front

The Ferris Wheel
It's an oldie but a goodie. You don't need to photograph the entire thing, just enough to hint at what it is.

A whole does not make an image

The Clowns
They are freaky and might give your kids nightmares, but what a great photo.

Stephen King, I hear your pain

The Merry-Go-Round
Why do small children want to sit on these angry horses?

Don't assume you need people in your picture

The Chair Lift
The repetition of the empty chairs is profound. It's a much more cheery photo when they chair lift is full of smiling faces.

Look for symmetry and repetition

Kids Activities
Get up close and focus on small things. No one needs to see the whole child.

Focussing on a detail will explain the whole

Livestock and Animals
Look for unusual looking animals or just sheer quantity. It's all about angles.

Shhh, I think he heard me

A more interesting shot taken from the side

Note: I took these with a Galaxy Camera using the 'faded colours' filter.
