Tennis is a Sydney past time for nearly all seasons of the year. We just enjoy it so much. It can be therapeutic, even if you're on the losing end the majority of the time.
We need to be ever so grateful for the local councils providing multiple tennis courts for us to play tennis on.
Nearly all of the tennis courts in Sydney (bar a couple) are clay based courts.
City Community Tennis would be the most extensive tennis court provider.
Want to learn how to play tennis? You're in luck.
Classes are also conducted at their various tennis courts. There are great programs for the kids too. Corporate and groups enjoy separate packages. It is great to play tennis as a couple in a singles match, yet at these establishments, especially in the early evening, it is incredibly fun to play in groups, especially in the autumn weather.
In addition to providing quality tennis courts, City Community Tennis also provides yoga and tai-chi classes, which is great if you wish to unwind after a heavy match. Their webpage is well organised and kept up to date - it is the easiest way to book a court for you and your mates. You should provide your own tennis equipment, otherwise the pro shop at the Surry Hills court has tennis equipment available for purchase or hire. Tennis shoes are also available to hire. Self umpiring is best, if you know how to do it.
Their courts are also open 365 days a week. The courts at Prince Alfred Park at Surry Hills (right near Central Station) are fantastic. A dream facility to play tennis, especially that their blue courts are PlexiCushion courts. The abundance of trains whizzing past does not toy away your concentration. City Community Tennis also has tennis courts at the following locations:
Alexandria Park, Alexandria.
Beaconsfield Park, Beaconsfield.
St James Park, Glebe.
Turruwul Park, Rosebery.
The Vanessa tennis courts at Beverly Hills are also great courts to play on. Parking is available at Beverly Hills train station.
Now it's over to you, where do you enjoy playing tennis at in Sydney and why?
