Melbourne is home to some high quality parks, and wherever you are in the city at any given moment, you are surrounded by different garden choices. Have a picnic, walk, stroll or even lie down for a moment; there is something for everyone when it comes to all of the available parks in Melbourne. Even though Port Melbourne and Elwood are beach side suburbs in particular, these areas still provide great parks for children and adults alike. This is a guide to the best parks in Melbourne; regardless as to whether you enjoy immersing yourself in nature or not. Enjoy the greenery.

1. Royal Botanical Gardens

I could easily harp on all day about how great and splendid Melbourne's Botanical gardens really are. I love how you can just immerse yourself in nature without barely a skyscraper or tall office building in sight. Beautiful ponds and areas to enjoy a picnic or simply to lie down on the grass near the waterside. The Royal Botanical Gardens is also home to the Ian Potter Children's Park and to summer shakespeare fun. You are also close by to the Shrine of Remembrance.

2. Fitzroy Gardens

Fitzroy Gardens (and the best way of coming here is through the Treasury Gardens on Spring Street, although watch the traffic as you are coming across the road) attracts many meditators, tourists and locals to Melbourne alike. Green and spacious with many shady areas under the trees. The Cooks Cottage adds to the local flavour, and makes way for a great walking trail to East Melbourne.

3. Flagstaff Gardens

Flagstaff Gardens are conveniently located right near the route of the free City Circle Tram. Every time I have taken someone here, they have always commented as to how great this park really is. Simple but elegant. A great oasis to escape the office or just the city for a moment. A refreshing walk around the block type of experience.

4. Alexandra Gardens

Although small and overly simple, Alexandra Gardens is a popular park for many different events from Australia Day to the Mother's Day Classic. Those who love to kayak nearby also find Alexandra Gardens a simple and relevant park in a quality location. Also a great park if you are nearby St Kilda Road and wanting to spend some time along the yarra and at Southbank. A great chill out spot, especially sitting right near the Yarra.

5. CERES Community Environment Park

CERES is a community environment park based at East Brunswick. A great place to chill out and unwind, and is also the home to quality organic food markets.
