Where's the Best Park in the Sutherland Shire

The Shire has a plethora of well-maintained and often scenic parks and playgrounds, so here is a tiny taste but this is a really tough choice. It's a decision that I haven't made yet, so please share your favourite?

Centenary Park is on Karimbla Road, Miranda has a great playground with a zip-line, wide paths, full facilities and barbeques with parking inside the actual park. Gates are open from 6.30am and close at 6pm or 9pm during daylight saving.



It is easy walking distance to the Miranda Fair Shopping Centre and railway station, and a pleasant relaxed setting for those who don't need to participate in the shopping trip or medical appointments. Attractive well-maintained grounds planted with natives with plenty of grassed picnic and playing space.

Don Lucas Reserve is a large reserve that looks out over Wanda beach and the dunes, but is nowhere near as extensive as I remember from dirt bike riding in my teen years. It has a great cycling path for all the family, plus permanent exercise equipment. It was fun to watch the children trying to imitate their parents when they couldn't even reach the bars.



There is also a covered adventure playground, picnic facilities and a half basketball court, so there's plenty for everyone with ample parking and easy wheelchair access. Having the beach directly opposite makes it easy to cool off after the workout.

Forby Memorial right on the corner near the Shire Council is a pleasant little park vivid with blooms. Where there are seats, a fountain and lush grass to lay about on.



Just around the corner is a Japanese garden with columns, raked white stones, a bridge and traditional Japanese plants. Behind this immaculately maintained garden, they have a farmers' market each Saturday 8am-1pm, with fresh organic produce, food stalls and lots to browse or buy for the family.
