When warm weather arrives, people start wanting to enjoy their meals outdoors. Many restaurants and bars know this, so they open up their patio, garden, or rooftop seating areas so their patrons can do just that.

You may be wondering which are the best places for outdoor dining, since there's so many to choose from. There are many, but the list below will describe a few to help you get started on your outdoor dining experience in New York City.

The Shelburne Hotel , 155 East 50th Street

This luxury hotel is located in the Murray Hill section of Midtown Manhattan, and offers two unique restaurants for your dining pleasure. Choose from the Rare Bar and Grill located on the ground floor, or enjoy the view of New York City from the Rare View. If you stay at the hotel itself, you don't have to wait to be seated for dinner. If you don't, just be patient, because once you do get inside the restaurant of your choice, you're in for a real treat.

The Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel , 687 Lexington Avenue

Although it is located in one of the busiest sections of town, the Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel actually offers a quiet place to enjoy an outdoor meal. The restaurant serves "high tea", complete with cucumber and other finger sandwiches as well as fresh scones served with jam. The hotel restaurant also serves other meals.

If you're not staying at the hotel, you may have to wait a bit, but that's all right. When you do finally get to the hotel restaurant, it will be well worth the wait. So, sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of Manhattan on a warm evening over a fine meal.

The Library Hotel , 299 Madison Avenue

Bookmarks is the latest addition to the numerous rooftop bars that dot New York City, but it's definitely different. To begin with, your drink comes in a real glass, not a plastic one. Just make sure you don't drop it over the railing onto the head of someone innocently passing by on the ground.
The entire hotel is done is a library motif, with the room floors being designated as a category from the Dewey Decimal System. You'll enjoy yourself so much that you may want to "bookmark" Bookmarks in your "favorites" column on your computer.

Cabanas at the Maritime Hotel , 363 West 16th Street

The rooftop bar at Cabanas at the Maritime Hotel stays open the latest of any of the outdoor dining establishment—until 3:00 AM on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night. The atmosphere is pure Chelsea funky, so come prepared to have some fun. While you're there, keep your eyes peeled, because celebrities often duck in for a quick drink or meal. If you do see one, don't stare, and please protect that person's privacy and personal space.
