First step book flights, Tiger Air came up trumps. Four of us flew Brisbane to Melbourne return for under $600.
We booked our car into Gateway Parking at Hamilton for six days $49 (this price included return shuttle to our car on return from Melbourne) and were promptly shuttled to meet our departing flight.
Pampering Five Star Luxury accommodation was next on the checklist, and find it l did, in a high level room suite with bay and city views for under $270 per night, including champagne on arrival and valet parking.
Hotel combined and Trivago have value deals which update daily, ultimately l selected Crowne Metropol direct and booked via their website and obtained the best deal.
Europcar in Franklin Street Melbourne is just the best: each time l book, l find the lowest rates and a new prestige car to boot. $185 for six days hire, unlimited kms in a new Auto VW Golf, which suited us perfectly.
This great little car with all the cons sprinted us easily and comfortably to Mt Baw Baw, approximately 2.5 hours from Melbourne.
The drive is picturesque and when we reached the summit snow chains clad, $35, we certainly entered a winter wonderland. Just beautiful! Hire a toboggan $7 and hit the slopes. You can hire skis and jackets at the resort and getting straight onto the slopes could not be easier -next time the budget will stretch to include a Snow Husky Sleigh ride which l am assured is a memory you will not forget.

Back in the car after an invigorating Mt Baw Baw experience, we head to Melbourne to the warmth of our hotel which has a circular fireplace on the 28 th floor and then onto dinner at Hammer and Tong, Fitzroy - the food in one word - Superb! Try the soft shell crab burger, an absolute speciality! This is five star food, prepared by passionate talented chefs in a real up vibe atmosphere.
We also experienced Chubby Bubby in Chelsea and had prawn and ginger dumplings which you would fly to Melbourne just to devour! Movido Spanish Restaurant in Flinders Street has truly tantalising tapas at its best, with spicy fruity sangria, crumbed olives and croquettes that are to die for.
After a fantastic six day/five night Melbourne foodie, snow, adventure /escape
