Best New York Vegetarian/Vegan Restaurants

For many people, a vegan or vegetarian diet is an integral part of their lifestyle, and they follow it faithfully. These people want to eat at restaurants that truly understand their dietary restrictions and preferences so that they can feel comfortable about the foods they are eating.

Fortunately, there are several true vegan/vegetarian restaurants in New York City. If you are a vegan/vegetarian, there is probably one close to you. If you've never had true vegan/vegetarian food, visiting one of these is a good way to be introduced to this distinctive style of eating and living.

Lula's Sweet Apothecary , 516 E. 6th Street

The food at Lula's Sweet Apothecary is served in an "old-time" candy store/ice cream shop atmosphere. You'll enjoy eating your natural, vegan, and dairy-free meal in this fun environment. Lula's also shows concern for the environment by using compostable spoons or napkins. This ensures that no extra garbage is added to landfills. You can eat at Lula's knowing you're adhering to your vegan/vegetarian diet and helping the environment.

Cinnamon Snail

This is a rather unusual name for a vegan/vegetarian restaurant, but that's OK, because the entire establishment is unusual. To begin with, the menu changes depending on the season, or just because the owners want to make a change, so this week's current menu (or today's for that matter) may not be the one you see next week. You also won't find out which desserts or pastries are being offered that day unless you call or stop by the truck. Don't worry, though, because whatever is offered was baked fresh that morning, starting at 3:00 AM.

Rawstar Restaurant and Café , 687 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn

If you like Caribbean food, but have trouble finding good vegan food of that type, then Rawstar Restaurant and Café is the place for you. The food is raw and vegan, so be prepared for that if you've never visited before. The place is very small, but this just makes it more cozy. If it's too crowded, order your food for takeout or delivery. You can do this online, which makes it even more convenient.

Blossom Restaurant

This restaurant has two locations: one in Chelsea at 187 9th Avenue, and the other one at 466 Columbus Avenue (this one is called Café Blossom). No matter which one you choose, you can be assured of the finest vegan food, served in very intimate, personal atmospheres. You may especially enjoy the Chelsea location. The restaurant is tucked away in a town home, rather than stuck in an area filled with crowded, noisy restaurants and bars. Those of you who enjoy the hustle and bustle of Midtown, though, will like the other location.
