Let's face it; a visit to New York City absolutely requires that you visit a tourist shop. When you do, though, you may find yourself pleasantly surprised, because some of these places are really neat.

You'll want to buy at least one authentic New York City souvenir, and you want it to be authentic. So, choose one of the tourist shops listed below for that special something that will remind you of your trip to the Big Apple.

One Shubert Alley, between W 44th and W 45th Street

Yes, it's really in an alley, but go ahead and venture in. You'll be fine. Once you are inside, you'll find Broadway merchandise that you once were unable to buy except at Broadway theaters.

You'll enjoy looking at souvenir posters, t-shirts, and other memorabilia from Broadway's illustrious past and its ever-changing present. You'll feel like you're taking a walk down memory lane, but you'll still have your feet firmly rooted in the present.

234 W. Souvenirs, 42nd Street

If you're near Times Square, look for this souvenir shop. You'll find a huge selection of New York City t-shirts to choose from. Some have the classic "I Love New York" design on them, while others are…well, let's just say, they're a bit more "out there".

That's all right, though, you should be able to find one that you like. Buy a lot so you can give them out when you return home from your trip to New York City.

Lola Staar Souvenir Boutique, Boardwalk on Coney Island

Be warned; the t-shirts at this quirky t-shirt shop on Coney Island are burlesque inspired, so some of them might be a little-ahem-racy. You should be able to find one, though, that won't send your dear grandmother to an early grave.

Getting to Lola Staar Souvenir Boutique is half the fun. You have to go to Coney Island, which is fun within itself, and to do that you have to leave the City and enter another borough, Brooklyn. Across the bridge, things are a whole lot different, but still fun.

Canalberry Pharmacy, 82 Mulberry Street

Yes, this is a pharmacy, but it sells souvenirs also. And, the best thing about it is the souvenirs are very reasonably priced. This store is located in Chinatown, where you can find an abundance of souvenir shops. For the best deals, though, you want to go to Canalberry Pharmacy.
