With all the different and exciting places, it's only natural that New York City would be a terrific place for scavenger hunts. What makes it even better is you don't have to try to organize one yourself; there are already scheduled scavenger hunts for different areas of the City.

You can choose from an adults-only scavenger hunt or one that is family-oriented. You can also pick the neighborhood you wish to poke around in, as well as the theme for your hunt. The opportunities are almost endless, so here's a few of the scheduled hunts to get you started.

When you go on this scavenger hunt, you'll find places where different TV shows and movie scenes were shot. Some of locations include the Sheep Meadow, the Lake, the Mall, the Boathouse Café, and the Carousel. You'll have fun taking pictures both to prove that you found the site and to keep as mementos of your scavenger hunt in Central Park. You'll be talking about it for years to come.

#gangs ">The Gangsters' New York Scavenger Hunt (around Chinatown and Little Italy)

You'll be made "an offer you can't refuse" (sorry, couldn't resist) when you go on this scavenger hunt that takes you through and around Chinatown and Little Italy. The places you will see are some of the actual spots where gangsters and mobsters once met.

Even if you're a New York City resident, you may find something you didn't know existed when you go on this scavenger hunt. This can include a new bakery, café, or store. If you do, make sure you jot down the address so you can return at a later time.

#gck ">The Grand Central Scramble Family Scavenger Hunt , Grand Central Terminal

Gather the family and head to Grand Central Terminal for this fun-for-all scavenger hunt. It will take everyone working together to find all the clues that are listed in this hunt that will take you to some of the most popular (and a few that aren't so well-known) spots in this bustling, sprawling terminal. This is a fun activity for a winter afternoon, when it's too cold to do anything else. Call or visit the website for schedule times and come on down to Grand Central Station.

#gvsatc ">The Sex and the Village Scavenger Hunt , Greenwich Village

This scavenger hunt takes you to different locations that were featured in the popular TV show and movie Sex and the City, so you might want to consider this a more adult-oriented scavenger hunt. You'll see the stores, restaurants, bars, and other places that were actually used as location shots. You'll laugh, cry, and sigh as you remember all the good times that Carrie, Samantha, and the rest of the gang had in these places. And, you never know, you might even spot "Mr. Big" (Chris Noth).

#mnhk ">The Museum of Natural Hysteria Family Scavenger Hunt

The Museum of Natural History transforms from a staid exhibit- and display-filled building to one that will have your family laughing hysterically as you try to find the different locations and things on this rollicking scavenger hunt. Kids over 7 will enjoy this as they look for a whale's new belly button, a dinosaur, and a hidden gorilla.

Parents, make sure you ask for the Museum of Natural Hysteria Family Scavenger Hunt. There is an adults-only one with a very similar name, but it is strictly for adults. So, check and double-check to make sure you're going on the right one.
