New York City is known for its open mic nights; in fact, that's how a number of stars got their start. You may not be discovered, but you will have a lot of fun. There are several places that have open mic nights, so if you're not sure where to start, use the list below as a guideline. If you'd like, you can visit each one of these. You never know which might happen.

Pulse Karaoke Lounge and Suites , 135 West 41st Street

This is a party lounge, but it's not your average party lounge. Pulse Karaoke Lounge and Suites offers six private suites, all with L.E.D. lighting systems that are actually designed to be in sync with every song that is played.

This is the perfect place for corporate parties, team-building events, and even business or product presentations. The sound system is excellent and the atmosphere will give your presentation an extra boost that will make it even more successful.

Karaoke Boho , 186 W. 4th Street and 196 Orchard Street

You have two venues of Karaoke Boho to choose from, and both of them offer the best in karaoke entertainment. You can join others in the bar lounge at either of these two locations or reserve a party room for you and your guests.

Drink special, food, and special event celebrations (such as Memorial Day or other holidays or events) all add up to the most fun you can have at an open mic night. Grab your friends, check your shyness at the door, and get ready to sing.

The Living Room , 154 Ludlow Street

The name of this lounge pretty much describes the atmosphere. On any given night, you may see a well-known musician or songwriter lounging on one of the sofas or sitting at a table putting the finishing touches on the next hit.

Open mic nights offer patrons a chance to be seen and heard; the end result can sometimes be the start of a whole new career. Even if this doesn't happen, the relaxed atmosphere and great performances will make your visit worthwhile.

Chorus Music Studio, Inc. , 265 W. 32nd Street, Floor 3

This is a very unique karaoke establishment. It offers six private rooms as well as a lounge area. If you want just your friends around while you perform one of over 80,000 numbers, that's fine, or you can enjoy the camaraderie and TV viewing in the lounge.

Another thing that makes Chorus Music Studio is that it is a family-friendly place, even though it does sell alcohol. The management encourages families to hold their children's birthday parties here, and guarantee that it will be one the child won't soon forget.

Bar 4 , 444 7th Avenue, Brooklyn

Travel across the Bridge to Bar 4, a combination karaoke bar/comedy club/lounge/music venue...you name it, and this place probably does it (within reason, that is). Open mic nights are held on Tuesdays, so if you want to showcase your particular talent, this is the night to go. Come back another night, though, to enjoy the comedy acts that appear here regularly, as well as the other special events that occur at this happening place.
