The Best Muffin Episodes from Bluey
Muffin pretending to be a ballerina

"It needs to be proper ballerina MUSIC! "

Muffin demands to dress up as a ballerina, "Charades", Bluey

Muffin Cupcake Heeler is Bluey's four-year-old younger cousin who is right in the middle of an awkward but normal part of childhood development known as being a "threenager". A threenager refers to a normal part of child development where children between the age of 18 and 24 months begin to show signs of independence and start to argue with their caregivers as a way to gain confidence for themselves. Muffin ticks all of these boxes. She acts out, whines and cries all the time, and demands attention. Because of this some fans hate her, but others find her hilarious. I have grown to like Muffin more over time. I love her confidence, her temper, and how strong-willed she is. She's Princess Muffles and she knows what she wants. In this article I will look at some of the Best Muffin Episodes from Bluey.

1. Granny Mobile

Episode Details: Season 3, Episode 33

Air Date: 19 June 2022

Written by: Joe Brumm

"Granny Mobile" has become my new favourite episode of Bluey. Muffin is visiting her cousins Bluey and Bingo. Bandit and Chilli take the kids to their neighbour Doreen's house who is having a garage sale. The kids get excited when they see an old scooter is up for sale. They ask Doreen if they could pretend to be grannies who want to purchase the scooter and she agrees. The kids dress up as grannies and Bluey suggests to Muffin that she pretend to be a grouchy granny who is selling her old scooter. She agrees. When a real grouchy granny turns up and demands to purchase the scooter, Muffin refuses to let her have it for the asking price and demands more. The two of them get into an argument, but Muffin won't budge, and insists on getting $1,200 and 18 lollies for the scooter. The granny begrudgingly agrees and hands over the cash, much to the delight of Doreen. What I love about this episode is how it shows the good aspects of having a very strong-willed kid. Muffin taught Doreen a very important lesson about standing up for herself.

2. Faceytalk

Episode Details: Season 3, Episode 24

Air Date: 14 December 2021

One of the things that I love most about Bluey is how the show points out that parenting can be difficult, exhausting, confusing, and sometimes just plain chaos. "Faceytalk" is one of those episodes that ticks all of those boxes so well, it came very close to being the top of this list. The episode begins with Bluey and Bingo logging onto the tablet to do a video chat with their cousins Muffin and Socks. The kids begin using a drawing app. When Muffin won't share with Socks, Uncle Stripe sets a timer on his phone, and tells her that when it goes off it will be Socks' turn. Muffin just grumbles. When the timer goes off, Stripe tries to get Muffin to give up the tablet, but she refuses. She is rude and talks back to him. Stripe tables the tablet off her and puts Muffin into timeout which causes her to have a tantrum. Stripe returns to the tablet and apologises to Bluey and Bingo about her behaviour. While he has his back turned, Muffin sneaks out of her room and steals his phone to join in on the call. This outrages Stripe who starts chasing her round the house to try and get his phone back. Muffin refuses to give up the phone and hides from him. I love this episode so much. It's comedy gold from start to finish. I love Muffin's stubborn refusal to give up the tablet, her cross expression, her rude outbursts, and her difficulty to understand that she is in the wrong. Muffin behaves pretty badly in this episode, but that doesn't make her a spoiled kid. Her behaviour is actually pretty standard for a child of her age. Her brain isn't mature enough to understand the concept of "sharing" yet. I feel really bad for Stripe in this episode. He does all of the right things to try and teach Muffin how to share. He encourages his kids to take turns, he sets a timer, he helps them wait and narrates his actions. Learning to share and take turns isn't easy. Stripe has a lot of patience in this episode, which is to be commended, because Muffin is a kid who likes to push back against authority figures and test boundaries.

3. Pizza Girls

Episode Details: Season 3, Episode 19

Air Date: 9 December 2021

Written by: Joe Brumm

In the episode "Pizza Girls" Bluey and Bingo are making pizzas out of mud and delivering them in their old pedal car to their parents who are preparing to host a family BBQ. When Uncle Stripe and Aunt Trixie turn up with their kids, Muffin shows off her brand-new electric toy car to her cousins. Bluey and Bingo are in awe of her car which is more impressive than their pedal car. Muffin asks if she can join in delivering pizzas with him. Bluey and Bingo agree and climb into her car. The kids shriek with glee as Muffin does several laps around the house at high speed. Muffin is so funny in this episode. I love her confidence, her aggressive driving pose, and how the licence plate on her car reads "MFN" which is Muffin for short. The nicest thing about this episode is how well Muffin, Bluey and Bingo play together.

4. The Sleepover

Episode Details: Season 1, Episode 39

Air Date: 13 April 2019

Written by: Joe Brumm

In the episode "The Sleepover" Bluey and Bingo are excited because Muffin is spending the night and Mum said that they could stay up late. When Muffin turns up exhausted after missing a nap, the girls realise they have a problem. Should they let Mum put Muffin to bed early or should they see if Muffin can stay up late enough to play one game? They manage to get Mum to agree to let them play one game with Muffin before bed. Muffin is so exhausted she acts like an intoxicated person. She babbles nonsensically, makes some very funny facial expressions, runs around the house completely out of control, and has some great one-liners like "Coconuts have water in them!" and "I am a llama eating a banana!" A lot of parents who like this episode have commented their kids often act like Muffin when they're in desperate need of a nap.

5. Charades

Episode Details: Season 2, Episode 11

Air Date: 27 March 2020

Written by: Joe Brumm

In the episode "Charades" Bluey, Bingo, Muffin and Socks visit Nana's house for an afternoon. The kids get excited when Nana suggests they all sit down and play a game of charades. When Muffin pulls the ballerina card, she demands to be given a tutu to wear and for someone to play music for her to dance too. When Nana and the older kids try to explain to Muffin that she is supposed to use her imagination, she gets cross. She insists that she needs a tutu and proper ballerina music. Nana explains to Bluey and Bingo that Muffin and Socks are too young to understand the rules of the game so to keep them happy she will give Muffin what she wants. She finds a tutu and plays some music and Muffin smiles happily and dances like a ballerina. I've heard some mixed opinions about this episode. Some people think that Nana was wrong to reward Muffin for her bad behaviour and to give her what she wanted. I think what some people forget about small children is that a lot of them struggle with emotional regulation around this age. It's a normal part of childhood development. Muffin doesn't mean to lose her temper she's just acting her age. Nana understands this so she acts patient and understanding around her.
