Moroccan cuisine is rich, spicy and diverse. Some of the classic dishes and ingredients include the hearty Harira soup, the delicious Merguez sausage, the Pastilla meat pie, Couscous, Börek and of course, various Tajine dishes. Popular desserts include Rozz bel Hleeb (Rice pudding), Ma'amoul and Sfenj. Vibrant drinks and teas also complete the traditional Moroccan meal, including mint tea, green tea, Moroccan coffee, Asseer Rumman (pomegranate juice) and beet juice.

In Brisbane we can try local variations of these classic Moroccan dishes at various cafes and restaurants. Mecca Bah, located in Fortitude Valley, is a fantastic spot to sample various classic Moroccan dishes, including a variety of Moroccan Tagine dishes, such as Mussels with Harissa, Chicken with tomatoes and Lamb with preserved lemon, as well as Harira Soup, Chickpea battered mussels and Sweet potato falafels. Desserts and sweets include Basbousa with Orange syrup, Flourless orange and almond cake, Pistachio Maamoul and Walnut Maamoul. A banquet menu is also available.

Taboon, located in Broadbeach is another great moderately priced Moroccan establishment. The Mezze dishes are a highlight here and there are two Tagine dishes available; Lamb Shank and Chicken. The menu here is quite varied and there are plenty of Moroccan and Turkish inspired dishes available.

Coral Tajine Moroccan & Spanish Restaurant, located in Maroochydore is also another great moderately priced Moroccan restaurant. The namesake of the restaurant, the Tajine, is the true highlight here. You can sample a Meatball Tajine, Chicken and Preserved Lemon Tajine, Seafood Tajine or Mrozia Lamb Tajine. Desserts and sweets include Warm Moroccan Chocolate and Walnut Torte, Hair Saffron and Mango Baked Cheesecake and Honey Figs Poached with Sweet Port Syrup. A range of banquet options are also available.
