When I was pregnant I really struggled to find maternity wear in Perth, so I ended up just buying clothes a size bigger, wearing stretchy clothing or buying my bump uniform from the number of overseas shops that deliver to Oz .

However, when I recently went to buy a pregnant friend some maternity clothes, I was happily pleased to find that there have been some really positive steps made in Perth to cater for the bump growing mammas out there and a number of choices are now available to me.

The Choices I've Found Include:

Big W
Offering a great range for those on a budget, although the range on offer does vary from store to store. There are some great casual options including some cute PJ' on offer for the nights when you want to relax and curl up wearing something comfortable. If you're wanting to draw some healthy attention to your growing belly, they have some great graphic T shirts in store which feature some wonderfully cheeky slogans on them featuring the Mr Men's Mr Bump.

Egg Maternity
Situated within Subiaco Square, and within easy walking distance of great parking spaces, Egg Maternity offers some lovely maternity choices, albeit with some lovely big prices too. Egg is one of the only maternity shops I've chanced upon that in addition to offering some great casual items, also sell some great work wear items so that you don't have to spend your gestation period heading into work in a tent.

Their corporate maternity wear range offer some well tailored items, in bright colours and patterns, so that you don't have to compromise your style whilst you're preggars. The additional highlight to this store, is a fabulous breast feeding range, offering a collection of tops that are perfect for once the baby is born and you are coupling feeding demands with your own comfort too.

Ripe Maternity
Subiaco is certainly hitting up the pregnant women market, with this additional offering in the form of Ripe Maternity; a more mixed budget maternity shop catering for a wider clientele than its neighbour, Egg. Ripe Maternity offers a really large range of clothing options, so multiple styles, fabrics and colours, in addition to its Subiaco store also stocking the pregnancy lingerie line of Hot Milk. Prices are still steering towards the higher end of the scale, but there are some great buys to be found in their dress selections, which would also double up as tunics over work trousers or jeans/leggings.

Target
The maternity range at Target has come on leaps and bounds in the years since my last pregnancy. Previously, the range consisted of little more than feeding tops, yoga pant type trousers, some hideous jeans and some tent style (cover all) tunics all in tones of black and grey. Now, I am pleased to find the range contains colour (wow), in addition to a real variety of styles. You'll find denims, tops, dresses, swimwear, lingerie as well as some great work wear options. With tops starting at $16, this is a great budget friendly option for maternity wear.

Kmart
Possibly the cheapest range of maternity wear that I have found, with some great bargains to be had on maternity wear basics such as jeans, t-shirts, vest tops and lingerie. Not the greatest variety on offer, so certainly this is more where you'd come to stock up on the essentials, saving your dollars up for some of the other aforementioned outlets for your work wear or going out tops.

Pumpkin Patch
My final selection for maternity is for the limited (but lovely) selection on offer at Pumpkin Patch . Your best buys here can be found during the numerous sales that occur year round. Jeans are a good option, as well as the versatile and pretty dresses on offer which would be suitable for during pregnancy as well as the months that follow.

A lot of the range caters for the growing bump with options to make the clothing bigger or smaller as your need requires; so great for when you are pregnant and huge, but also fab for after the baby when you are too big for your old clothes but too small to wear full on maternity clothing. The sizing of the clothes seems to vary with each item, so I would definitely recommend try before you buy.

What maternity wear shops would you recommend? Have you found any great shops that you'd like to share?
