Over the years I have travelled around Victoria and every chance that I get, I try to find out where there is a market going on nearby. One that has quite a lot of stalls that will keep me busy for at least a couple of hours, has lots of fresh produce or something unusual that may catch my eye.

It may be in the form of a Phantom comic book, a mint in box toy car, an old LP of the Beach Boys or some old fishing reels that are no longer made. It may be a market that has great jams or pickles, sells pie and peas or have one of the best sausage and egg rolls.

Markets may not be for everyone. But there are hundreds of markets throughout Melbourne and Victoria where you can pick up your weekly fresh produce, the knick-knacks that you have always wanted, a place where you can take the family for a few hours or a place where you can catch up with friends for a chat.

Have you ever heard the song written by Australian country singer Geoff Mack in 1959, "I've Been Everywhere" and made popular by Lucky Starr in 1962. In this song they go through over ninety towns and places within Australia.

What I have done for this article is put together a list of 40 markets (some I have been to) that have taken my interest throughout 39 places in Victoria. They are Abbotsford, Albert Park, Ballarat, Belmont, Berwick, Camberwell, Castlemaine, Dandenong, Drouin, Echuca, Elwood, Fairfield, Gisborne, Healesville, Heathcote, Jindivick, Kinglake, Koonwarra, Laverton, Longwarry, Mornington Park, Melbourne, Neerim, Nunawading, Oakleigh, Riddles Creek, Pearcedale, Pombo, Rokeby, Scoresby, St Kilda, Tallarook, Trentham, Violet Town, Wadambuk, Wallan, Warragul, Whittlesea and Yarragon.

So whether you are new to the market scene or a veteran? This list will help you get started to find the best market in Victoria. Or maybe you already have one in mind.
