No visit to Malaysia is complete without the experience of having some of their amazing street food. However, we are very blessed in Adelaide as most of the authentic Malaysian street food can easily be found and enjoyed here without actually having to leave the country. Below is a list of the best Malaysian restaurants around the city and beyond, in alphabetical order.
Casuarina , within Westfield Marion, has on its menu beautifully-cooked char kway teow, nasi lemak and Hainanese chicken rice. If you live south, and dread driving into town, then this place is definitely for you. The place is spacious and has a nice ambiance.
Hawker Walker, just off Rundle Mall, is sort of the new kid on the block. It recently joined the scene, not too long ago, but is quickly becoming on par with the rest. The wat tan hor and kway teow are fantastic. Do give it a try if you haven't done so yet.
Kopi Tim, in Chinatown, has been serving Malaysian cuisine for a long time. It used to be our popular late night hang-out venue during university days. Don't be deceived by its outer appearance, the place might not look very attractive but the food is sure to please. We dined there again just last week and ordered the seafood laksa and chef's special bak kut teh which were both very flavoursome. For those with the Entertainment Book / App, you can make use of its voucher as well.
NanYang Cafe, also just off Rundle Mall, is an old favourite. People flock there mainly for tossed noodles, and my usual go-to-dish is the honey bbq pork tossed noodle. Other dishes like nasi lemak with beef rendang and Hainan chicken rice are great too. But be sure to get there early as the queue becomes pretty long during peak lunch time.
PappaRich , in Chinatown, serves fabulous Malaysian street food across the globe, including Adelaide. It has become a household name for the many Malaysians living abroad. Dishes include biryani rice with beef rendang and sambal prawns, wat tan hor, and nasi lemak with curry chicken & sambal prawns, to name a few.
