Where's the Best Lunch Deal in the Melbourne CBD?

It is approaching midday and your in the middle of the Melbourne CBD. You're hungry like the wolf, but you only have loose change in your wallet - where can you go for a quick feed?

In this listing we have selected some of the very best cheap lunch spots in Melbourne, and I am sure many of our keen readers will have their own recommendations to share.

To kick off this listing, I'll start with a particularly busy lunch spot - EARL Canteen sandwiches. Most of the menu items are priced just over $10 - so I guess it is a gourmet cheap eat, with 'gourmet' being the key word here. Try a corned wagyu sandwich with horseradish, bearnaise, glazed carrots and dill pickle for $12.50 or for our vegetarian friends, there is the mushroom and goat's curd option with pesto, chestnuts and rocket for $11.50. There are plenty of sandwich options available, including lunch box options with your choice of salad for an extra $4. Most EARL Canteen sandwiches are priced between $11.50 and $16.00.

For affordable quality sushi, head to Purple Peanuts Japanese Cafe. This humble Collins Street Japanese establishment has a range of lunch dishes around the $10 mark. Akio's salmon sushi is the speciality here, it is served with rice and mixed salad and another menu highlight is the Tsuke Don, which can be served with miso soup for an extra $2. The soba dishes are also popular at lunchtime - choose from veggie curry, beef curry or chicken curry.

Our final cheap eats pick is Famish'd on Little Collins Street. This cafe is all about salads - and exciting salads at that, such as the lunch specials - Big Mixed Salad Bowl and Design-Your-Own Salad. You will get the chance to personalise your meal here by picking either a lettuce base or pasta base and building your salad dish with house ingredients and dressings. Spuds are also offered. Our own Melbourne cafe guru Chris Karageorge enjoyed a Mexican inspired salad . Check out some of their delicious menu options here . The lunch dishes are around the $10 mark.

**There are of course, many more great lunch spots in the Melbourne CBD, so if you know of a great cafe or restaurant which has a great lunch deal, please let us know about it by leaving a comment.

As always, we look forward to your feedback. **
