Posited as a reward to thank loyal customers, we all know loyalty cards are about making sure you do not stray from their store. But why not? Get something for nothing as you do your normal shopping.
Everyone loves a freebie and that's exactly what marketers depend on. I've got a purse full of them but can never find the one that I want when I want it. Luckily we live in the digital age so now you often don't have to have the card with you. Most have free membership but this is not always the case so ask first.
In general most loyalty programs offer money off future sales or a free product (for example, free coffee after purchasing ten), entry to exclusive competitions and other members only specials. As what each store offers varies overtime, the examples below may not be applicable at the time. The list is in no particular order.
Every time you shop, points are allocated proportional to the sale price. The initial rate of Reward Points is one point for every $1 spent. When 250 points are accrued a value of $10.00 is able to spent on House goods or services.
Amcal If you join Amcal Rewards you'll have access to a range of offers and exclusive members only benefits. For every $1 spent you will accumulate 5 points - that's a 5% discount. Points cannot be earnt on prescription items. A minimum of 500 points must be accumulated before you are eligible to redeem. Your points can be used for the full or part payment of any purchase.
As an Amcal member you also have the chance to win prizes.
Priceline Statements of your reward points (accumulated from previous purchases) with discount vouchers will be sent to you so don't mistake them for advertising material and throw them out. Priceline also send a small free gift voucher for your birthday that can be used to purchase anything to that value in the store. Last year I bought myself some beauty products.
Woolworths Woolworths offer everyday membership specials just for cardholders. For example, if you buy a loaf of bread and you scan your card the membership price could be dollars off. Each time you spend you earn frequent flyer points or you can choose gift cards. Points are also tallied and every quarter I earn a $20 gift card. That's always a pleasant surprise in the mail. You can also save 4c per litre every time you spend more than $30 at Woolworths.
Flybuys This works on a point system from purchases at numerous locations. Some of the bigger outlets include: Coles, K Mart, Liquorland, Target and Budget. Click here to find out where else you can collect points.https://www.flybuys.com.au/collect/learn-to-collect
You can sign into their site at anytime and redeem points for many popular items such as movie tickets, gift cards, fashion and beauty items, technology, dining and wining or donate to charity. As an example, it costs about 7000pts for 2 adult and 2 children's movie tickets.
Flybuys points can be also converted to Flybuy dollars in multiples of 2,000 points only. 2,000 points equates to FB$10 and these can be spent at any participating outlet.
Offer a free juice on your birthday as well as every 11th Boost free. They also have exclusive offers and monthly competitions. Pick up a card from their store and enter the card numbers on the back to register,
In Victoria, on the first Tuesday of every month they have 30% off everything for members only. Regular members also receive a newsletter, exclusive beauty and salon service offers, and chances to win products and competitions.
Gloria Jeans also offer a free birthday drink. They have exclusive member benefits, offers and treats and invitations to members-only competitions.
Members have access to reduced pricing with new and exclusive offers each month. It's a bit of potluck though. The items you want may or may not attract a discount at the time you want them. Their program allows you to win prizes and instant draws just for being a rebel active member.
Members get movie tickets for everyday of the week for just $11 and points accumulated from each purchase go towards free movie tickets. The $12 joining fee gives you a free movie ticket. Members get notification of special offers and events throughout the year.
Teds Cameras- Club Ted
On joining ClubTed you receive a FREE $10 voucher redeemable in store with any purchase over $20 and you are also immediately entitled to member pricing on printing services. Every month special deals and promotion codes for members only can be redeemed in store or online Discounts and member pricing on photographic services. An example of the specials includes half price photos (6x4").
There is a $5 membership fee for the card, but you'll soon earn this back in points and other benefits. For every $1 spent you will earn 1 voucher point. For every 200 points you collect, you receive a $10 gift voucher (to spend on your next purchase of $15 or more). 5% discount is of available when you shop online. From experience I know that if you have a few teenagers they will spend a lot at Just Jeans.
Each time you donate a bag of goodies you get a stamp on your loyalty card and can save on your next purchase. On the first shop you save 5%, then 10%, 15% and then 20% on your fourth purchase if you have donated four times. Members only sales day are held about once a month. Some items can be up to 50% off.
So which loyalty program is the best?
I guess it depends on what you buy the most of. I'm not a coffee drinker so a shoes loyalty card would be on the top of my list.
If you are going to shop anyway you might as well sign up and save. Get something for nothing just by being a loyal customer. There is a catch though. You generally have to give an address/ email address so you're sure to get junk mail some way as a result. Better buy a bigger purse for your savings and loyalty cards.
If you know of a sensational loyalty program let us know by posting a comment.
Our best loyalty card is at the Botanica Tavern in Innaloo WA. We often eat in the restaurant and buy beers (for hubby) and wine for myself. For every dollar spent at The Botanica Bar & Bistro or Liquor Barn, members will earn Club Botanica points. Points will accumulate to earn you dollars loaded into your card for future purchases.
The other catch is that they have your details and can onsell them and also target market things to you (particularly the big chains). Having said that, I'm a fan and use the Woolies and Coles ones as they save me money and I don't care if they know I buy dog food. There was a case in the States recently where Target knew that a teenager was pregnant before her folks simply by monitoring what she bought!!
The Moray Cafe in New Farm have a rewards system called Loyaltree (new to Australia) and it gives a joining discount of 15%, I get 10% off for birthdays and 1 point for every dollar purchase that accumulate to then give discount. 50 points ($50 spend) give 5% discount, 100 points ($100 spend) gives 10% discount 150 points ($150 spend) gives 20% discount. Points are able to be shared amongst Loyaltree customers and we even get points for sharing on facebook and twitter. I personally think it is one of the best rewards systems going around.
