How to Make the Best Lasagne

Bolognaise sauce

1 tablespoon oil
700g beef mince
cup bacon, diced
2 brown onions, diced
2 tablespoons garlic, crushed
1 cup mushrooms, chopped
3-4 carrots, grated or chopped
x2 400g diced tomatoes (can)
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2-3 tablespoons BBQ sauce
1 teaspoon rosemary
1 tablespoon chilli flakes
Pinch of salt

Cheese sauce

60g butter
cup plain flour
cup milk
600ml cream
cup tasty cheese, shredded
cup parmesan cheese, shredded
cup cheddar cheese, grated
White pepper

Top layer

250-375g lasagne sheets
cup tasty cheese, shredded
cup parmesan cheese, shredded


1. Preheat oven at 180.
2. Bolognaise sauce: heat oil in large saucepan.
3. Add beef mince, bacon, onions, garlic. Cook until mince is browned.
4. Add remaining bolognaise ingredients.
5. Simmer for 20 minutes.
6. Cheese sauce: melt butter in a saucepan or large frypan over low heat.
7. Stir in flour until smooth and cook while stirring for a minute.
8. Add milk and cream. Stir until the mixture smoothens and thickens.
9. Add remaining cheese sauce ingredients.
10. Stir over heat until cheese melts.
11. Prepare a large baking dish with oil or cooking spray.
12. Arrange 3 lasagne sheets over base (break pasta if necessary to fit).
13. Slather a third of the bolognaise sauce over lasagne sheets.
14. Smear a third of the cheese sauce over the bolognaise sauce.
15. Repeat these layers at least twice (if you have more lasagne sheets you can add more layers).
16. The top layer is lined with lasagne sheets.
17. Pour remaining cheese sauce (if any).
18. Sprinkle remaining top layer ingredients (add more cheese if top needs more coverage).
19. Bake dish (180) for at least an hour.
20. 20 minutes into cooking time, cover top with foil until cooked.
21. Turn oven off and let the dish sit for 10 minutes.
22. Remove dish from oven, set it on heat-proof surface and serve.
