**Kitchens[/b] are an integral part of our lives, and love them or hate them, they are a necessity!
Some of us like shopping and some do not - however at some stage we all need to buy things for our kitchens and there are quite a few shops specialising in kitchen goods.
The following are six of the better ones North of the River. These shops are physical shops and not just online stores, so all can be visited in metropolitan Perth.
They are in no particular order as they all have extensive ranges and are well worth visiting.
[SECTION]Kitchen Warehouse[/SECTION]
Kitchen Warehouse is a family run business, with a huge range of every conceivable item needed in the kitchen, as well as many more unusual items.
Their showroom is huge and has many brands of pots and pans, electrical goods, a range of knives, pressure cookers, bake-ware, gourmet jars of food, cutlery, crockery sets, and so much more.
They have well-known brands such as Maxwell & Williams, Analon, Bamix, Bodum, Cuisinart, Wusthof, Scanpan, Wohl, Magimix, Sunbeam and heaps more.
Situated at 381 Scarborough Beach Road, Osborne Park, they also price match and you can buy online from them
here .
They also run regular workshops and the October one is on pasta making.
I bought this unusual item from there on one of my visits, and it is so handy when baking dough for bases, and it is an item I have not seen before or since.
They have many specials and I can spend half a day in this interesting shop. Staff are helpful and there is plenty of off street parking outside. They have stores in Melville, Cockburn, Joondalup, Cannington, Malaga and Midland.
[SECTION]Kitchen Witch[/SECTION]
Kitchen Witch was founded in 2000, and their motto is "Where service has a face, a smile, a voice – yet doesn't cost an arm or a leg"!
They have an extensive range of goods with gift ideas and a free gift wrapping service.
They offer a "rent a tin" service where you can rent a cake tin for that special occasion, which saves you buying one that you may not use again! This is available from their Joondalup store.
They also offer a knife sharpening service which I have used, and my knives came back totally different - so sharp, that it is something I will have done regularly.
They are Perth's largest stockists of MasterClass bakeware, which is PFOA, PTFE and BPA free, freezer, fridge and dishwasher safe and have a 20-year warranty, with a 5-year warranty on the non-stick coating.
They also sell Thermochef and you can see how this operates below.

If you are not sure what to buy someone as a gift, you can always get them a Gift Voucher.
There is so much choice in this shop that you are sure to find something both as a gift, and if you are anything like me, you will walk out with something for yourself, even if you did not intend buying anything!
They also have many upmarket items which are not readily available in other shops. They stock some of the well-known brands as well as some excellent items that are not so well-known.
You can also check out their latest recipes
here .
Situated in both Joondalup and Mandurah, you can see more about this store
here .
[SECTION]Matchbox[/SECTION]
Matchbox is a Melbourne based firm with franchises throughout Australia, and they have stores at Joondalup, Garden City, Midland Gate, and Rockingham.
They have a [b]Secret cooking club[/b] which as a member, you receive a $25 voucher for every $500 you spend in the store.
They also have some great recipes on their
website as well as a large range of designer, practical kitchenware and cooking utensils.
Do you have a spiralizer? They are the latest craze where you can do fantastic things with vegetables, including turning them into spaghetti!
They have a section on how to use your spiralizer, and these gadgets are available now at most shops, and in several different sizes and designs. See this article
here .
Remember these flour sifters? They were used many years ago, and are making a comeback, and this is just one of the great kitchen items you can buy at Matchbox stores.
Matchbox, as well as most of the other kitchen shops, have a range of festive ware, and particularly so for Christmas where there is a good range of serviettes, baking dishes and much more.
[SECTION]Lady Kitchener[/SECTION]
Lady Kitchener is a Perth icon and they describe themselves as "every woman's and kitchen savvy man's dream"!
Situated at 50 Bay View Terrace, Claremont, in Old Theatre Lane, they have been established for about 30 years and have never wavered in the quality and the unusual, quirky products they carry! Although not a huge shop, it has a lot cleverly crammed into it. Lady Kitchener is perhaps more of an up market shop, and they have many excellent gift ideas, as well as items for everyday use. They have many novelty items that you will not find elsewhere.
They have a range of excellent non-stick saucepans and frypans including the Diamond series from the Woll German range. I have a whole set of these and they are far better than any others on the market, as you can use metal utensils with them, cook on high which you cannot do with any other fat free pans, and they have a detachable handle which is fantastic when you want to put the pan in the oven and also when you want to wash it.
They also make cakes to order for any occasion.
[SECTION]House[/SECTION]
House are in many of the large shopping centres and although they sell other things besides kitchenware, they have a good range of many kitchen and related items. Their range can be seen
here .
They have a range of salt and pepper shakers and you are sure to find one that is suitable for you here.
They stock a general range of many kitchen items including saucepans, mixing bowls, kitchen tools, spiralizers, small gimmicky items, Royal Doulton, and Maxwell and Williams, to name but a few.
House also offer a free gift wrapping service and gift registry, and claim "their staff are well trained to answer questions on most aspects of the products we have on offer and if they don't know they will find out for you".

[SECTION]David Jones[/SECTION]
Last but by no means, least is David Jones, in Perth city. They have some delightful kitchenware, and a lot of upmarket goods, as well as thousands of everyday items. David Jones constantly have sales, as well as selling all sorts of electrical items, including larger ones.
They have quality items and one of these is this exquisite Zen kettle.
They have a very large range of pots and pans in many different brands, and these are also often on sale, sometimes at 50% off the retail price.
David Jones also do a gift registry and this has become very popular due to their large range and quality items.
Pick up some beautiful crockery/cutlery when they are on sale, and you will not regret it, as they carry some of the high class brands such as Royal Doulton, Rosenthal, Alessi, Georg Jensen, Spode, Wedgewood, Marinoni, and Christina Re (which is not available anywhere else).
Royal Albert is another brand they carry, and this delightful Cheeky Pink tea pot/cup for one, is available there.
You can see more of David Jones' huge range
at this site , and also on this page you can see their range of electrical items – why not grab a coffee machine so you can make your own cappuccino any time you want, and while they are on special!
Even if you do not need anything for the kitchen, visiting any of these shops is quite a fascinating adventure. And I always find things I "must have" though I have been told I get my wants and my needs mixed up!
Happy shopping!
