Your child has reached an age where pass-the-parcel and musical statues aren't quite enough to keep a crowd of little friends entertained at birthday parties. It is time to up the birthday party entertainment stakes, and that means one of two things:

1) Go out for birthday party entertainment which could involve a trip to the movies, tenpin bowling, a visit to an indoor trampoline park, a playcentre, or a build-a-bear workshop.

2) There are many wild and wonderful ideas to keep children entertained in the comfort of your own home, why not save your energy and book a mobile party entertainer instead?

Who are your favourite kid's party entertainers in Melbourne?

Here are some more ideas to get you started:

Most children are fascinated with the circus, so why not organise a circus party? The Circus Spot teach circus skills to youngsters, and offer birthday parties at their Pascot Vale studio. A standard party runs for 1.5 hours with a 1 hour workshop including Trapeze, Mini-Trampoline, Hula Hoops, Juggling and Pyramids.

Everyone wants to be a Master Builder after The Lego Movie proved that colourful interlocking plastic brick toys are awesome and continue to entertain children and grown-ups alike. Bricks 4 Kids, recently reviewed by Jen Wilson, offer Lego building workshops to groups of eager children, birthday parties included. Inside the Brick can also arrange birthday party Lego workshops for children at their Fairfield studio.

I doubt there is a single girl in Australia who is not crazy for Disney's Frozen, and that means Frozen themed parties are hot topic. Dayna Chu shared her Frozen themed party ideas in her How to Host a Frozen Party article, followed by a personal review of Magical Princess Entertainment where you can hire your very own Anna and Elsa to arrive at your house in complete character costume discussing their favourite parts of the movie including interactive sing-a-longs.

How about some hands-on wildlife fun? The Moonlit Sanctuary in Pearcedale can certainly entertain a group of animal loving children with their daytime 2 hour birthday parties including a short bush walk, animal presentation and a number of 'up-close' wildlife encounters. Or, you could arrange animals to come to you with Animals Oz offering 1 hour mobile wildlife parties where your child will get to be a 'ranger helper' for the day and show reptiles, amphibians, birds and mammals to his/her friends.

For educational fun, The Scientwists bring a crazy science party to your door with mini-explosions, spectacular chemical reactions, flying ping pong balls and more. All kids get to take home a special completed science experiment too.

Vanessa recently published at article about a brand new type of party experience BugUp, where budding environmentalists get to explore their local water habitats; rivers, streams, ponds and swamps. Children will search for aquatic macroinvertebrates (water bugs) and find out how water systems interact with the environment.

Fairy Freckles and Friends have entertained at two of my children's parties and have never failed to capture a tough crowd with interesting, bubbly characters.

Fairy Freckles did magic, some games, including hula hooping, beautiful face painting and some amazing balloons . It was great value and totally took the stress of entertaining a bunch of kids off our shoulders.

I highly recommend them, you can find them at: www.fairyfrecklesandfriends.com.au
