"The good things in life are family, friends, good food & wine, books you can't put down & as much travel as you can cram in."
Published April 29th 2012

If the kiddies (or you) are climbing the walls and there's not much money in the kitty, here's some fun, really cheap ideas to keep them amused.

Make Flubber. You know, that lovely elastic gooey stuff that stays in the shape of any container you put it in - great for pretend cakes, pretend boogers, and oozing between your fingers. Doesn't stick to hair or clothes either. The glue in the recipe can be bought at art/craft shops. Borax can be found at the supermarket.

Flubber Recipe

1. You will need 2 medium size mixing bowls.

2. In 1 bowl combine 3/4 cup of warm water with 1 cup of white glue and a few drops of food colouring. Add more colouring depending on the intensity of colour you want.

3. In the second bowl, mix 2 teaspoons of Borax with 1/2 cup warm water.

4. Make sure you mix all ingredients well, then combine the 2 mixtures together. Voila. You have flubber.

Photo album

When was the last time you sat with your children and looked at 'old' family photos? Kids love looking at photos of themselves when they were babies and hearing family stories, the sillier the better. If they haven't got one already perhaps they could make their own album (or buy one from a $2 shop). Let them take some photos on their own, too. And never forget how amusing photos of you when you where a baby/teenager can be.

Disco in the lounge-room (works best in the evening)

If your eardrums can take it, turn the lounge into a disco. Decorate with Xmas fairy lights & tinsel - after all it's a shame this sparkly stuff is hidden away all year. Move back the furniture, close the curtains, turn down the lights and rock. All ages can enjoy this, from Wiggles lovers to ACDC. The kids can dress up, too, if they like.

Make some punch for thirsty dancers, plus some party food and a good time is guaranteed.

I came across this
great website
that is chock-a-block with ideas.

Have fun everyone.
