Nelson Bay is a small town on the waterways of Port Stephens, just a New South Wales/Nelson Bay, New South Wales 2315/@-33.2950199,151.0340188,9z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x6b129838f39a743f:0x3017d681632a850!2m2!1d151.2092955!2d-33.8688197!1m5!1m1!1s0x6b7383c232b5436d:0x5017d681632f200!2m2!1d152.1414806!2d-32.7206751!3e0 2.5 hours north of Sydney. It is nature's paradise with bright blue water, dolphins in the bays and whales out to sea , between May and November. It is a popular region for a weekend away for couples who love the outdoors and enjoy spending their days on the water .

I have previously written about Where are the Best Places to Stay with Kids around Nelson Bay and Top Holiday Parks Around Nelson Bay , however, couples may prefer more luxury for a quiet romantic weekend away. These hotels, below, are on the pricier end of the budget as they are 4 and 5-star, but they are perfect for couples and offer rooms looking out to the water. The Anchorage is a 5-Star hotel located right on the water at Corlette, just a few beaches from Nelson Bay. It has luxury written all over it from the time that you enter reception to the time you leave. Enjoy beautifully furnished rooms, stunning views, fine dining and beach walks along Corlette Beach next to the resort. There is a sumptuous day spa on site called Spa Lucca , which has a range of couple's packages to choose from. This quiet hotel, set away from the tourist areas, is a retreat for the soul. Armana Guest Luxury Resort is a smaller 5-star resort, located right on the beach at Dutchman's Beach , one bay over from Nelson Bay. This quiet retreat has 1-bedroom apartments suitable for couples, so you have more room if you want to stay for longer than a weekend. There is a walking track right outside the front door that takes you left to Bagnalls Beach and right, to Nelson Bay . You can't get much closer to the water! See here for details.



Bannisters Port Stephens is a 4-star hotel located by the water at Soldiers Point , 15 minutes from Nelson Bay. This hotel is perfect for a quiet getaway, with lorikeets and kookaburras often visiting guests on their verandahs. Onsite there is also a day spa , a gastropub and one of the reasons that many people go to visit - Rick Stein's seafood restaurant. The hotel is located near Wanda Beach , so you can go for romantic sunset stroll. See here for details.
