Better a bun on a plate than in the oven
I have a weakness for hot cross buns. As soon as the Christmas decorations sales have finished I'm on the lookout for them in supermarkets and bakeries.

My religious friends think this is a little on the sacrilege side, celebrating Easter a little early. But that is not why I eat them, I just like them.

A taste and a value for money test was in order as an excuse to eat more.

I purchased a six-pack each from Woolworths, Coles and Bakers Delight.

Four buns from four shops. One cost $1-90 and tasted different from the others so I didn't review it.

Both Woolworths and Coles sold theirs at $3-50 for a six pack or two packs for $6-00. That's only 50 cents each.

Bakers Delight's six-pack was $7-50 which is $1-25 each.
Taste-wise Woolies and Coles were much the same with Bakers Delight with a little more taste as you would expect with their buns containing more fruit than the supermarket's offerings.

A bowl of buns - yummy.

I must admit I don't particularly like dried fruit, but I tolerate them in lovely hot cross buns.

My first taste from the Woolies offering, while tasty, had me thinking there was not much fruit in them. Closer inspection revealed there was none. Even closer inspection of the packaging that they came in revealed they were fruit-free hot cross buns that I had accidentally purchased.

No fruit, but still tasty.

When Easter comes and goes I only have ten months to wait for their return, not twelve months as the traditionalists would dictate. I hope they don't look in my freezer.
