Are you planning on a trip up the coast? If so, where do you want to go? It doesn't matter where you stop, you will find beautiful unspoilt beaches, plenty of holiday accommodation, less traffic and plenty of natural beauty to take in. There are many idyllic locations that are within hours of Sydney's city centre. You could stay in an Airbnb in a remote location and wake up to the sound of birds, or you could book a family cabin right on the beach and wake up to the sound of waves pounding - the choice is yours!
Keep reading for two holiday destinations that my family love, within hours of Sydney. Where are your favourite holiday spots? Please leave a comment at the top of this article if you would like to share your favourite destinations - if you are happy for other people to discover it as well! Why not hop in the car, feel the wind in your hair and start exploring this weekend...
Visit Port Macquarie on the Mid-North Coast of NSW
Port Macquarie is located 4.5 hours north of Sydney or you can fly from Sydney to Port Macquarie and get there quicker! Port Macquarie is a popular destination for all ages, as it has something for everyone. There are stunning beaches, a wide range of accommodation options, family activities, shows, wineries, country pubs, foodie experiences, great fishing and miles of coastline to explore. Port Macquarie seems to be growing every time I go back to visit it - there are more cafes, more things to do, more shops and more attractions, popping up each year. If you want to relax, then start your day at Town Beach and then go from there...

Nelson Bay is located closer to Sydney, just over 2.5 hours north of Sydney. This is a much smaller holiday destination than Port Macquarie, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in beauty! The water is particularly blue in the waters of Port Stephens due to the fine, white sand on the bays and beaches around Nelson Bay. The town of Nelson Bay has restaurants, water activities, cafes and shops and then you hop in the car and start exploring surrounding towns and beaches at Shoal Bay, Fingal Bay, Anna Bay, Salamander Bay, Soldiers Point and Corlette. This venue can get very busy in summer, but if you visit in winter you may have an entire beach to yourself. My family loved this area so much, that we moved here!
Do you have a favourite holiday destination north of Sydney? If so, I would love to hear about it! Please leave a comment at the top of this article and it will be shown underneath, for others to read. We are lucky that it doesn't matter which town you stop at on your way up north, you are sure to find a beach that is perfect for swimming, relaxing, collecting shells and making sandcastles. The towns north of Sydney are blessed with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Why don't you put your footprints on a new beach, this weekend?
