Have you just moved to the Nelson Bay area and are looking for a good gym? Or perhaps you are here on holidays and are looking for somewhere to go casually? When our family first moved to the Nelson Bay region, finding a good gym was near the top of my list of things to do. If you have a regular exercise program, the sooner you get back into it, the better.

These gyms below, were recommended to me when I first arrived and I have heard only good things about them since. Some have got free trials, others have 24 hour access, most have got classes and others offer personal training. It all depends what is important to you. Keep reading for these popular venues, however if you have a local gym, or tennis/ squash/ kayaking club that you would recommend for exercise, please leave a comment at the top of this article and share your exercise tip. Right, let's get moving!

Anytime Fitness is located at Salamander Bay, outside Salamander Square shopping centre. It is a small-ish club, but it has everything you need. It has modern equipment, several treadmills, small group classes, a 24-hour toggle so you can access it anytime, options for personal training and a friendly team that welcomes you into the club each time. What I like about this club is that it has every age, shape, size, and ability there - all are welcome. See here for details.

F45 Training Port Stephens
is a larger club also located in Salamander Bay (near Harvey Norman) and has intense fitness classes to get your body into shape. Friends who have joined this gym have lost weight, gained muscle and gone through an 8-week challenge with great success. Why don't you try it for yourself? You can join and be a member or buy a 10 visit pass for $250. See here for details.

iGym
is located in Salamander Bay, a few doors down from F45, and offers classes, a large gym area, the latest equipment, 24 hour access and no joining fees. It is a popular gym for all ages. A friend of mine works out there at 3am before going to work in Newcastle, and highly recommends it. See here for details.

Balance Collective is located next to Wests Nelson Bay club, on the road to Shoal Bay. This popular club has classes, modern gym equipment, casual visits and a 14 day Fit-Mix Pass. See here for details.

PT Fitness is located at Taylors Beach and they offer more of a personalised training option, with a range of classes and support. See here for details.

If you have another fitness venue or sports group that you can recommend, please leave a comment at the top of this article and share your local tip. Choosing the right gym that matches your needs is important - you won't go if you don't feel comfortable and at home in the space. I found my gym that I'm happy with - which gym will be your fit?
