There is just something about this mouth-watering treat that spells summer like nothing else can. For me it's the delectable variety of flavours just begging to be tried. Is it a wonder then that in Italy Gelato is not so much a treat but a ritual that both locals and tourists delight in? While I've already met my true love in the form of a little gelataria in the quaint town of Sienna in Italy, sadly, it is a little too far to go for my favourite Italian dessert.
So my search for something a little closer to home in the quest to find Sydney's best gelato begins. I will reveal that my personal favourite of the moment is Gelato Messina in Darlinghurst. And judging by the steady queue, I'm sure many others would agree. Their signature "salted caramel" is apparently to-die-for. While I was tempted by the amazing array of gelato flavours at Messina, I just couldn't abandon my tried and true flavours of coffee and pistachio and let me tell you, they certainly did not disappoint here.

But alas I am fickle and my favourite gelato is subject to change as I do of course try so many in the name of research. Now it's over to you dear readers to tempt me with your favourite gelato bar. While you do that, I might just go back and try that salted caramel after all.
Messina on Crown. Always have new flavours, staff are warm and friendly (even to older patrons) and you can try before you buy. Great prices and there's even a new flavour in conjunction with the sun safety campaign, called Pretty Shady with passionfruit sorbet swirled with coconut lychee gelato with black sesame praline.Delish to the enth degree!
Gelatiamo in Lindfield is home made on the premises of this family run business. All fresh genuine ingredients make authentic & delicious gelatos. Some favourites have been black sesame, lychee, blood orange as well as belgian chocolate, coffee, hazelnut and others. Thomas and Bonnie are charming hosts.
