Your Guide to Gay Melbourne
This is your up-to-date and highly selective guide to the very best gay venues Melbourne has to offer. There's a pub crawl you can do that covers the five best gay venues in Melbourne in a night. It's perfect for a night out with the guys, birthdays, gay bucks nights, tourists, and even local who wants some variety – all within walking distance, with many transport options.

Hares and Hyenas is at 63 Johnston Street Fitzroy, and is a great place to start early in the evening - there's copies of gay publications including venue guides so you can see exactly what's on that night. There's also a cafe to meet friends, and buy a strong coffee to perk you up before you hit the bars and clubs.
The 86 Cabaret Bar (at 86 Smith Street in Fitzroy) is your next venue - time for a fancy cocktail or two. The venue is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Relax and check out the crowd, from the velvet or tram cart booths, peruse the extensive drinks menu, and take advantage of drink specials on some nights. Food can be ordered from the local Vietnamese restaurant 'Coconut Palms'. 86 Bar also acts as a cabaret and comedy venue on some evenings, so it's best to check ahead.
The Laird at 149 Gipps Street Abbotsford is a short walk from 86, and is Australia's longest running gay bar, and just gets better with age. The venue has two bars, a pool table, and a large outdoor garden to hydrate or enjoy a cold beer. There's often a drink special on Fridays, and free entry most nights. Long weekend events are particularly popular, with a range of parties and events.

Sircuit Bar gets busy later in the evening and is a popular gay bar, with regular shows, pool tables, dance floor, and an extensive bar. It's time to grab a mixed drink and settle into the heaving crowd, and get mingling. They are open most nights with a range of gay and mixed events, including some stellar performances and DJs. Sircuit is located nearby again at 103-105 Smith Street in Fitzroy.
It will be late by now, and so the final bar on our pub crawl is Peel Hotel at 46 Peel Street in Collingwood (a short walk from Sircuit). This venue has a busy dance floor, pool table, and a large and friendly outdoor area. The Peel has a mixed and energetic crowd, and thumping music, with plenty of entertainment. There are multiple bars, so great for a shot with friends, and then dance till you are ready to wrap up celebrations for the evening. Taxi stand is right outside the venue.
