These fun runs in Sydney are also family friendly. They are great if you wish to compete in teams or do it alone. These fun run events are presented more so in date order as opposed to an order of preference.
1. Mother's Day Classic
The Mothers Day Classic is an annual event held at The Domain and in Parramatta, on the morning of every Mother's Day in order to raise much needed funds for breast cancer research. Many people dress in pink, and the day kicks off with warm up entertainment with stalls and displays to enjoy. Choose from the 4km or the 8km run or walk, and all participants who complete the event receive a finisher medal together with refreshments and a bag of treats from the sponsors.
2. The Sun Herald City 2 Surf
This annual fun run event in mid August is ever so popular and continues to attract the crowds. Welcome to the City 2 Surf. Every year Hyde Park brings a sea of competitors and pre-race entertainment. It is great that there are many water and Gatorade pit stops along the way, with the perfect finish at Bondi Beach. Music and entertainment is provided along the way. This might call for added motivation for some people. It is great to receive a finishers medal upon completing the 14km challenge, and all Westpac customers get to enjoy a complimentary BBQ and finisher photo at the end point.
The annual event held by Blackmores runs in September. You can either challenges yourself and run full out (the fully monty) with the marathon events, or just walk or run from the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Great vantage points all round, and the recovery zone at the Royal Botanical Gardens is a much needed treat post-event. Further information can be found by clicking here.
4. Run 4 Fun (Rebel Sport)
The Run 4 Fun is a 10km sister event to the City 2 Surf, and is another well organised fun run event that is held at Sydney Olympic Park in November. Here is your chance to run (or walk) around the Olympic Park and Newington areas, finishing off at the ANZ Stadium with people cheering you on inside. A finisher medal and post race refreshments are also provided.
For all of these events, it is important that you do the appropriate training as part of your preparation. I have participated in all of these fun run events and they are all heaps of fun. The City 2 Surf is my favourite, and come August this year, I will have participated in my seventh City 2 Surf event. Feel good in more ways than one. The key focus is on health, vitality and charity.
