I have only recently discovered the new style frozen yogurt that seems to be taking over Melbourne. Two of the best new places that have opened this year are Yummoos on Lygon St and Frozen by a Thousand Blessings on Bridge Rd Richmond. Both sport funky crisp, clean interiors that house self serve machines so you can make your own amazing desert exactly how you like it.

Frozen By a Thousand Blessings is located on Bridge Road, Richmond, a couple of blocks over Church St towards the Yarra. They opened at the start of the year and their philosophy is "Good for cravings and your conscience." They use only biodynamic organic milk and yogurt and most of their toppings are also organic and locally sourced. The shop itself is a cool crisp white space with fun yellow light and the food is the only other decoration, and that's plenty enough. Mother nature can smile here, but perhaps not your waistline, as at this stage there unfortunately isn't a fat free or light option on the menu.

The yogurt is pretty amazing you would probably think you were almost eating ice-cream if you didn't know. There are 6 different flavours and they are more than happy to let you taste test any of the flavours which include Chocolate, Coconut, Mango and Strawberry to name a few. The toppings here are pretty amazing and include several different fruits, syrups and preserves. The real stars however are the naughty toppings, such as organic brownie, white chocolate gojiberry, caramel popcorn, amaretto mini biscuit and house-made lemon slice. This place is a seriously amazing flavour hit. The cost of this indulgence comes in at $2.90 per 100gms, so try not to go too crazy. A small cup with a moderate amount of toppings comes in at around $8.00, this is more than enough for a decent serve however I'm sure you could go over $10.00 very easily and the experience can then become a tad costly.

Down the road a bit is the new player on the Forzen Yogurt scene Yummoo. Located in Brunswick East on Lygon St it is their first shop in Australia. You have to be pretty confident about your product to open a Frozen Yogurt shop in the middle of a Melbourne winter and these guys have good reason to be.

Yummoo is about on par for price but comes in 10 cents cheaper at $2.80 per 100gms. The newer kid on the block also offers a 98% fat free yogurt and while it may not be organic it still tastes just as good and also has an amazing variety of toppings. Yummoo offers more fruit and healthier options than Frozen By A Thousand Blessings and you can also buy tubs to take home. Why would we ever eat ice-cream again when yogurt is this good?

So over to you now, do you know an amazing frozen yogurt place near you? Let us know what you think is the best topping.
