There are a number of lovely French Cafes, Bistros and Brasseries located in and around Melbourne, where you can try classic French dishes such as Escargot, Steak Frites, Moules-Frites, Niçoise Salad, Duck à l'Orange, Boeuf Bourguignon, Bouillabaisse, Lobster Bisque and Coq au Vin.

The Melbourne Weekend Notes team have reviewed a number of the acclaimed French establishments in Melbourne;

Ruby Warber gave Madame Sousou in Fitzroy, the thumbs up and The French Brasserie in Melbourne made an impression on Anthony Read, as did Bistrot d'Orsay. Chris Karageorge gave Parisian Patisserie Boulangerie, located in Essendon North top marks and Lina's Bistro A Vin delighted Sofi Sez. Vue De Monde Restaurant was regraded as "one of Melbourne's, and indeed Australia's finest and most exclusive restaurants" by Rod Whitfield

The Bergerac Restaurant in Melbourne was also well regarded by Matthew Steel, as was Bistro Guillaume in Crown Casino and Le Gourmet Restaurant in East Melbourne.

Other top picks would have to include The Hardware Societe, Creperie le Triskel, France-Soir Restaurant and La Belle Miette.

If you know of a great French Cafe, Bistro or Brasserie located in or around Melbourne, please let us know about it by leaving a comment below.

We look forward to your feedback.

After just writing it up I'll go for Bon App in Fitzroy because it is so French, but so inexpensive, which is a nice change compared to many of the other French restaurants in Melbourne that hike the price just because the food is French inspired.
