When you have kids, it can sometimes be a challenge to find somewhere to go out for dinner, where everyone will find something on the menu they like. Sometimes there may be plenty of kid's options, but the adult meals don't seem particularly appetising. On the flip side, there are numerous international options to choose from which adults love, but the kids may not. So where can you find a family friendly restaurant that is somewhere in the middle? If you are a local of Woden, or live close-by, the following suggestions are places that our family has tried and enjoyed. However if you have more suggestions, please leave a comment at the top of this article. When you are dining out with kids you can never have too many options.

Hogs Breath Café has traditionally been a family favourite all around the country since 1989. In Woden it is located a short walk from Woden Westfield on Breath Woden/@-35.348545,149.086559,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x5542bfebe0a03012!8m2!3d-35.348545!4d149.086559 Hindmarsh Drive and has a large following of fans - especially on Monday and Tuesday nights after work and school, when kids eat free! Adults need to buy a main meal over $20 to receive one kids meal from the Kid's Menu . Children need to be aged 12 and under to take advantage of the deal. See here for details.

Rashays is another family friendly favourite, located opposite Hoyts within Woden Westfield shopping centre. This restaurant offers activity books for the kids and when you leave, the kids can pick out a balloon. All kids' meals are under $10 and come with a free Twist, drink and Sundae Slam! If you plan on visiting Rashays more than once, consider buying a Rashays card for $10 which gives you 10% off each time you visit and kids can eat for free off the Junior Menu every Sunday. See here for details and here for a full article on Rashays Woden.

Grill'd is another option just a short distance from Rashays, above, located outside another entrance to Hoyts Woden. This restaurant has an indoor dining area (ideal for winter nights), as well as an outdoor dining area with plastic coverings to protect diners from the sun, wind or rain. If everyone in your family loves burgers, then there will be something for everyone on the menu - with healthier options and gluten free buns. For kids under 7, there is a Lil' Kids Menu with mini burgers. See here for details.

Rama's Fijian Indian Restaurant in Pearce is a popular family friendly venue, particularly if you book a table earlier in the evening. If your kids love Indian food, this colourful restaurant has a wide range of delicious Indian-Fijian flavours on the menu, which you can request as mild for the whole family. See here for a full article on Rama's. For more family friendly international options, also check out Daana in Curtin and Vietnam House and Chinese Kitchen Dumpling House , outside Woden Westfield.

Clubs in Woden are another popular choice with families, with the Hellenic Club having a kids play area near the Bistro and the Canberra Southern Cross club has a range of dining options. At the time of writing, Canberra Southern Cross Club is undergoing a makeover and will be installing a pizza oven and restaurant at Woden Central - which is sure to be a hit with families!

San Churro is the ultimate way to end a night in Woden, with delicious desserts, Belgium hot chocolates, sundaes and churros share plates to enjoy together. As soon as you walk in, the kids will love the colourful décor and range of chocolatey options on the photo menu . You are guaranteed to walk out of there with a family of full tummies! See here for a full article on San Churro Chocolateria.

These are the places that our family has discovered, however Woden has a wide variety of restaurants dotted all around the region. Do you have a favourite that hasn't been mentioned? If so, please leave a comment at the top of this article. If you live on the south side of Canberra you don't need to travel into the city for a good, family meal, there is plenty of choice just minutes from home. Where is your family's favourite?
