Go on throw it, throw it, please throw it

I am new to this world. Well, to be more specific, I am new to this world of dogs. And it IS another world. I now spend a lot of my free time researching the things that my furry best friend and I can do together. I search for the best places to take your dog for daytrips, dog friendly accommodation, dog beaches, dog cafes, off leash areas, beauty salons... ok, well maybe I've gone too far but you get the gist.

So I thought I would put my research to good use and come up with a list of the better dog parks around the north side. Of course, I haven't covered all the doggie playgrounds in the area but this article by Kirsten Bas, has got some other great parks too.

Murrumba Downs - Blatchford Reserve
A medium sized park with plenty of space to play fetch
Water station, doggie bags and bin, one bench seat with little shade
Situated in a massive human park with basketball court, dirt bike track and covered picnic area
On street parking available

Mango Hill - Corner of Sunstone and Bonnet Parade
A small dog park in a quiet area
Water station, doggie bags and bin, one bench seat and agility equipment
Playground for the non-furry kids
On street parking available

North Lakes - Aurora Boulevard
A large and interesting park in a newly created space
Two water stations, doggie bags and bin, agility equipment, two bench seats and a large covered sitting area
Lights, so you can play a game of chasey after work
Toilets, covered picnic area, large open field, skate ramps
On street parking with a couple of parking bays

North Lakes - Gardenia Parade, Woodside Playing Fields
A small, busy park with an interesting layout
Water station, doggie bags and bin, a couple of covered bench seats
Cool layout with inner circle open to run around and outer circle with an agility circuit
Parking is limited on a narrow street

Griffin - Ultramarine Parade Park
A small, quiet space with no fuss
Water station, doggie bags and bin, one bench seat but no shade
Part of a large sports field for the other kids to run around
Only two parking bays, narrow street parking

Brighton - 25th Avenue, Decker Park
A large, popular park with a lovely view
Water station, doggie bags and bins, large covered area with table and seat and separate bench seat
Agility equipment off to one side
Plenty of shade from all the trees and playground and BBQ facilities outside of the fenced area
Wonderful view of the Pine River, with paths to go for a walk with either your two or four legged kids (or both)
On street parking or there is a car park by the waterfront

Fitzgibbon - Roghan Road, Hidden World Playground
Fun for kids (both furry and non-furry)
This dog park is separated in two, the general dog park and the small dog park
Both have water stations, doggie bags and bins and bench seats (covered seating in the general area)
Plenty of shade from the surrounding trees and one of the best playgrounds for your human kids, I have ever seen. Plus BBQ areas, toilets and an open area for an impromptu game of footy get in early though, if you want to secure a seat!
Ample on street parking and a car park

My personal favourite
Kallangur - Park Grove Court
A large, tranquil and shady area surrounded by bushland in Freshwater Reserve
Water station, doggie bags and bin (although bin is located outside of fenced area), two seats
Plenty of space to play fetch and to go exploring
Walking track, basketball court and large open field to kick a footy around
Limited on street parking

Oh and a quick note on dog park etiquette:
If your dog becomes a nuisance or aggressive, leash them and leave immediately - would you want your human child to be bullied or bitten at the playground?
Pick up after your dog this really shouldn't need to be said but unfortunately some people still think it's ok to leave their doggie doo doo's for someone else to pick up
Always keep an eye on your animal and make sure they are under control - these parks weren't created as a doggie drop off area so you can catch up on the latest tweets #spendtimewithyourdog

Have you got any other suggestions? I'm always looking for new parks and places to explore with my puppy sized best bud, Barkley!
